Default Replacing clutch liner 50 V2

I read a lot of posts on replacing the clutch liner and most of them talked about removing the clutch bell from the pinion gear. When I removed the engine and the start coupler (was able to get an allen driver to the two set screws without removing the pitch arm), the shaft and bell housing (with pinion gear attached) slipped easily out of the bottom of the frame. Is this typical??

Thanks!!

The V2 pinion rides in a bearing mounted in the frames just above the clutch. The only thing really holding the assembly in place vertically is the starting coupler and the engine, so if you remove that and the engine it should be possible to pull the clutch and start shaft out by pulling the assembly downward. It was quite common for the bearing that supported the upper end of the pinion to wear and get loose, so check the pinion above the gear teeth for a ring worn into it's surface.

Later Raptors, like the Titan SE had a pinion with threads on it's upper end for a nut that could trap the pinion support bearing, that eliminated the problem with the pinion support bearing spinning on the pinion and wearing both out.

Thanks Dyehard, I was about to bolt the engine in place when I noticed a LOT of lateral movement in the clutch bell. Ordered replacement bearings today (starter shaft and pinion gear). Will see how it goes.

Appreciate the info.
