rick,

if CA is added to the screws during install, how easily are the screws removed later down the road? have you tested that? i'd like to keep my tray very secure and haven't thought of the CA.

Should be the same as using CA to secure a screw into plastic.

I'll try to remember to screw one in tonight ,leave it a day, then take it out.

After letting one dry 5 minutes, I really didn't see much difference in holding power.

I just shipped some more trays to Ready Heli if you were waiting.

Hi,

From reading this forum for a while I understand that it's a bad idea to put the gyro on top of the boom block so now I have a few (noob) questions:

Which is better if I don't get this mod: Receiver tray or top of the boom block?

Putting the gyro so far out on the tray/mod seems to me as it would get more vibrations. Why not have it further in aligned with the screws? Is it due to higher static in there?

You could actually use my frame either way. It is reversible.

IMHO, the tray is too flimsy to put the gyro on., but I didn't want it on the boom. That's why I asked RIck to do this. You don't have to mount it at the end of the new tray, mine is positioned about 50% into the frame on the new mount.

Burns.... what are you saying? The stock tray is too bouncy out on the end or not? Many have found the stock tray caused them problems when the gyro was mounted on it. I did as well. So are you arguing the stock middle tray is not too flimsy to hold the gyro? Not sure I understand your post?

Thanks Chas,

I get it. The stock receiver tray is like a springboard to put the gyro on.

Can someone explain to me why the traymod is so long then? Maybe slighly higher horizontal vibration doesn't matter but anyway..

Is it just to have the possibility to put both receiver and gyro on it?
Is it due to possibility of adjusting a gyro like f.ex. a 401 w/o have to pull it out?

Could this be a good solution:

Mod rick's mod by shortening it just so the screws can go in safely. Put the receiver on top and put the gyro upside down on the bottom. It would be possible to adjust it through the openings in the bottom plate??

Sorry if I'm being noopid!

It was made longer to allow the user flexability of what to install there, or how to install it. You can shorten it if you like, turn it around with the long part facing inward, or mount both the Rx and the gyro on the tray. It just gives you more options to use that space. It is also a lot less flexable than the stock tray.

I happen to like the extra length, only to keep the gyro out as far away from the noisy stuff as possible. Don't have anything else mounted on it at all. Doesn't seem to vibrate anymore there than it does anywhere else, but then again my 500 is one smoooth runnin' machine.
Smooth like butta', like fine aged scotch, like, like Telly Savalas' head.

mmmmm, butter......

Yep, I am sending them a new lot this morning. People are starting to use them for flybarless configurations now.

I see the point of having it that length now, so I have made my own the same length as the tray. I use aluminium 4mm. Also I've made a a big hole in it and cut the width to lower weight (15g). I'm planning to put the gyro on the bottom of it nevertheless and the receiver on the bottom plate. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this will act as a barrier against noise and esd.

This has really worked out great Rick. Adjusting the gyro is simple too. I saw that you were making a bunch of different trays for batteries too. Well worth it and looks so much better than my first attempt at making one. Keep up the good work.
