Question Futaba GY520 gyro, any good?

Hi Guy's,

Looking to replace my CSM gyro in my 450 with a 401 out of my 500 (Align). Seen the GY520 which you can hook up to the PC to configure etc, very neat little unit. I like Futaba gyros, got a couple 611's on my 600esp, 600n so like Futaba gyro's, got the CSM on a second hand heli.

Honest opinion, should I get one and do i need to buy the USB cable to connect, mind you seen the video and looks the dogs

Any advice would be great, need to replace the CSM because I cannot get heading hold on the 450, i know the 401 is sound and want to find a nice replacement for my 500.

Cheers Guys, your advice as always is priceless

The 520 is a very good gyro. I really like mine...the USB interface is a nice feature but not necessary by any means. The gyro works fantastic right out of the box, although I prefer the feel of the Spartan.

You don't need the USB cable, the default set up via the LEDs should suffice. Is it a good gyro? Yes.

The Spartan is similar in the same respect. You can hook it up to a computer (PDA or Laptop) via USB or Bluetooth. Do you really need to? Probably not....

To be honest, you really can't go wrong with either the DS760 or the GY520. Both are tops in my book. However, just as a disclaimer, just about all my models now use Spartans. I use to be a big GY601/611 fan. That's not to say I haven't tried other gyros (Logictech 6100, JR 770, GY401, etc etc), I have. I've been extremely pleased with the DS760.

GY-520? Absolutely top notch and easy to program without the USB - I even use them in my big 90 nitros!!

I had a GY520 and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread....until I got a Quark.

May I ask why you're replacing the CSM? I know you said you can't get heading hold, just not sure exactly what that means. I have a 13-year-old CSM 360 in my Shuttle and it still seems to hold the tail better than any modern mid-priced gyro. It's heavy as balls, but...

Two GY520's and a Quark. At my level, they are both awesome.
