Default DX8 2s LiPo...cheap alternative?

I totally refuse to pay $70 for the Spektrum LiPo.

Please tell me someone has a cheap alternative.

Thanks.

Just bought my DX8 Monday and so far loving it. Just spoiled with a LiPo in my DX7 thats all.

you realize the battery pack has HVC and balancing built in....so you dont have to remove it from the Tx. Just plug it in and when the blue light goes off your done......fully cycled and balanced

Well.. that's the whole idea.. you CAN now charge the lipo in the radio The lipo is special... read up on it. There's a big reason it costs $70

That lipo wouldn't even last as long as the stock NiMH would it? Isnt the whole idea of switching to a lipo long times in between charges?

That lipo is 1600mah, stock is 2000mah, and HH lipo is 4000mah.

But lipos do not self discharge, unlike ni-mh.

I havent had to charge my ni-mh up though for a month, so ill be sticking with that

A couple of these in series could possibly work in the DX8.

Have built in battery protection. Something for the DIY set.

This isn't a LiPo pack, it's a higher quality NiMH pack build just for the DX8 that holds a charge for months with low self-discharge loss. It's the same capacity as the original pack, but constructed using better cells.

Did you actually leave the stock pack parked long enough to notice substantial loss from self discharge?
My stock pack gives 12-15 hrs of operation and I really havent noticed self discharge being an issue.I havent had it sitting for more than a couple weeks this winter but I tried to let it run down to at least 4.5 for the first 3 or 4 cycles and it took a long time.I kind of suspect that the stock pack is in fact made from LSD cells.
Ive had my radio 8 months now and Ive only charged it 5 times I think.
The stock pack is working fine for me so I dont see any need to spend more money for something better than what I have that is working fine.
Overnight is really also overkill for charging as well.I found that 4 or 5 hrs actually brings it back up to 5.3 when it gets down to 4.5-4.6.Any more than that and the pack starts warming up because its done.
I hear a few reports of packs getting hot during charging.Dont charge for so long. Its not nessesary.Once it starts getting warm its done.
