Default How can I take more advantage of my charger?????

Hello guys..... I have this charger, it says it can charge at 6A:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...cessories.html

and a power supply I got in radio shack (see picture attached of the power supply information and the way I have plugged my charger). It says it can deliver 5A..... I use the input cable that came with the charger (very tiny compare with it of my power supply, see picture).

When charging 3S 2300mah, I can charge at 1.5A without problems I have gone to 2A sometimes without a problem but I don't do it often....

Now I am starting to use 6S 5000mah and I was surprised to see that when going above 1.2A, the input plug that goes into the charger (the end of the input cable) becomes VERY HOT, so hot that it kind of melted once and now it is stuck in the charger, anyway, I only charge now at 1.2A because otherwise, it becomes too hot, at 1.2A it is fresh and no problems and even at 1.3A it becomes hot, so 1.2A for now, however, I find it very long to charge!

Can I do something to better improve my charging rate? I would be happy with 3A..... any suggestions????? do you guys think it is the tiny cable that can't handle the 1.3A+ input current? with what can I replace that cable????

Another question... in the power supply... what does it mean:
SEC: 12V --- 5.8A
PRI: 100-120V --- 50/60HZ 1.8A
what is the translation? I am not good in electronics terms....

Thanks a lot!

to be honest..that setup connection looks kinda sketchy !! you atleast need to be using bannana plugs from power source to charger.. not alligator clips to bare wires !!!!! do you have a better pic of the power supply ?

Lollll i know. I run out of banana plugs and i had to plug it that way, but i wouldnt think that is the problem???. I put electrical tape around to avoid contact but i removed it for picture purposes. For now, those are the only pictures i have about the power supply. However, what you see in the picture is what it's in the label, the rest is only the rest of the container. You can see in the pictures how tiny the wires that came with the charger are (the alligator clips)....

Any sugestions?

Thanks

Hello, thanks for answering. The article was REALLY HELPFUL. My charger is rated to a max of 50watts but apparently I can only go up to 6s 25.2 x 1.2A = 30.4 . Increasing A to even 1.3A (32.76watts) the plug that goes to the charger gets really hot. Do you think that it doesn't support more because the wires going to this plug are too tiny???? Or it's just simply because it's a cheap charger? In theory, if I use the formula, i should be able to charge up to 1.8A with that charger????????

Also, what does the information provided in the label of my charger mean?

Thanks a lot!

SEC: 12V --- 5.8A
PRI: 100-120V --- 50/60HZ 1.8A

This is the voltage on the coil in the charger: PRI (primary): is the required voltage going into the coil (charger) from the wall outlet of your home.
SEC (secondary): is the voltage that is leaving the coil.

Ok, does it mean my power supply takes 1.8A from my house electricity and it can supply up to 5.8A to the charger I use????

Thanks

^In theory yes but there is probably a little loss on the output side due to inefficiency.
If it was me I would stay around 5 amps going in to the charger just to make the power supply a little happier.

Talking

Hello,

To give an update.... I think my problem was my conections. I replaced the tiny wires with 12awg wires and I am charging at 1.8A my 6S! and the charger is fresh... I hope it will last. I am going to order a 150W to charge my 6S in 1hr. but in the mean time, 1.8A is much better than 1.2A.
I will keep 1.8A because that equals 45.3watts and I don't want to pass 50watts....

Thanks a lot for helping me understand how the watts and A work!

thanks!
