Century E640 finally done and test flown

Yeah, the battery loading system will take some getting used to.

I need to refine my method. I'm thinking of getting another battery tray to keep two ready to go so I don't have to dismount the packs to charge.

I may even go to a smaller pack, seeing how little capacity is used.

Yes it is definantly worth while to have a tray for each battery pack.I actually stuck mine on with servo tape and then the straps so they are solid and as thin as possible.I found with velcro they wobble and are thicker. After several installs you will have things worked out .I taped my balance plugs so they come out the bottom ,middle of the packs so they do not hook on anything sliding in.It is fast to change packs once they are all setup.

Got another cpl,flights in today with new packs. I'll post a pic of my modded tray later I run an a123 pack for receiver and no bec so the nose is a little tight but it all fits.

That is a serous weekend of flying.

+1, but the landing pad at the club where I fly is raised about 10 inches above the ground. Yesterday the wind slid my e640 off the pad on landing. Blades and feathering shaft done
I'm going to start practicing throwing a healthy amount of negative collective just as it touches to pin the heli down. My first clue should have been that all the airplane guys had gone home...and second...if they had gone home why wasn't I flying from the their big flat runway

Well I finally put a hacker A50-10L in the E640.It all fits fine with just a little shaving on the edges of the aluminum bellcrank support.I am going to run it on the stock gear with the 6mm 11 tooth straight tooth pinion for now.I will have flight reports shortly I hope with 610,620, 640's and then the stretch to 690's.I have a question for you guy's though.If you where looking at one of these motors for your own heli or where looking at a E640 package.Would you be fine with trimming or would you sooner have the motor that just bolted in.I am looking at the possibility of having 3 fins removed on some motors for stock .This way they will bolt in without modification to the heli.Would that sound appealing to you a a consumer? Thanks for any input..

Me personally I would prefer a drop in fit , I'd rather not try and source getting the fins shaved down. I've put 28 flights on mine with the stk century motor and only one I'll hiccup with it the spiders work great too.
The vintage hacker 77 is still holding up too.

How much extra will the hackers be modified ?

That Hacker must be exactly the same size as my motor. IIRC, someone shaved some fins off to make theirs fit with no other mods. I opted to slightly shave the bellcrank support.

Well I have several flights on the new Hacker A50-10L 580kv .All I can say is wow I have jumped up a size in blades and running a bit more Rpm and there is no change no matter how hard I crank on it.I am going to try my 640's and then start adding some pitch to it.I have played some with my governor gain and it is working really nice.I can overspeed it in a heavy decent and it comes back on so smooth you can hardly hear it.My tictocs are not the most gracefull but there is no rpm change slamming it ham fisted back and forth.It does appear that I have lost 30 seconds of flight time but I am running bigger blades and 50 rpm more headspeed.I talked with Hacker and they are fine with me making the slight alterations to have a drop in motor for the E640 .I will be taking a new motor to have 3 fins removed to clear the bellcrank mount so there will be no modifications required to install a new Hacker in a E640. These motors come in A50-10L 580kv Turnado and the A50-12L 470KV versions.So far very happy.

I trimmed the fins, but in hindsight would shave the bellcrank support. Nothing bad about cutting the fins, but why take a chance on throwing it out of balance.

FWIW I had to back off the governor gain a bit to get the tail to hold.

I will be taking the can and having it spun in a lathe to remove the fins.So the can will be dialed and the fins removed true.The thing is it is hard to sell a heli kit with a motor and tell the cutomer to take a grinder to this part and grind until your motor fits.Now if I can take a motor that has been altered to fit and all slides together perfect ,it is alot better deal for everyone.As mentioned I talked to Hacker about warranty if I have this done to my A50 motors .They where fine with it and thought it was a good idea. I am just a Hacker dealer so it is not my call on warranty.There are many way's to acomplish things but from a retail perspective the better things fit together the better.What seems a simple task to one person may totally turn someone else off of buying a product. Keep here flying and take care

How is everyone's E640,s flying? I bought a crashed e640 to do a stretch build on.I have been wanting to do this for awhile. I will probably try a build thread on it as I think it helps everyone. I can honestly say that my. E640 has been the most trouble free heli I have ever owned. I plan on 690mm and 3300 12s at a lowerheadspeed for a nice light setup with I hope approx 6 minute flights. Carl I have a nice new shiny one in a box on my shelf with your name on it

The damage on this one was limited.It snapped the tail transmission,some canopy damage but still very usable,tailboom,tail boom supports,blades and the rear 2 lower frame gear mounts that the tail supports mount into.I did not see the crash as I bought it from elsewhere crashed.I thought I would change a fair amount of the damaged stuff with the stretch anyway and it helped a fellow flyer out in the process

I crashed my own once (my own fault) low light ,poor sky and old eyes (bad combo) I hit hold as I had totally lost orientation and could not regain it,got it leveled just before it hit .Besides cleaning out allot of dirt all I hurt was my pride and one main blade.A very tough frame set I must say.
