Default T connector suitable for Trex500L ESC and 6s lpos ?

Hi folks,

I am in the phase to build my Trex 500L. So far I flew the Trex450 DFC. I used for 3s batteries and ESC plugs, the T-connector.

Is the T-connector suitable for a Trex500L with an ESC 70A and 6s batteries?

Or is there a risk that the T-connector will burn ?

I use 4mm bullets on my TRex500 w/stock motor and YEP80 ESC. You could use XT60 if you`re not in a hard 3D

Thanks for your replies

I also got some useful infos.

T- Connector (Deans): 60 A
shortly 75 A (max. 30 seconds)

So I guess normally you should get along with a Trex500L.

Probably for the Trex550 or Trex600 you need bigger 5mm gold contacts.

NOt all T-connect (deans) are created equal - the high quality ones should handle the 60a range fine....

But if you have some of those generic cheap ones - be careful -
check em for excessive heat and desoldering - especially at first....

As they age - that spring in the male weakens or breaks off - then the whole plug over heats/melts....as it tries to suck thru a weak connection......

If you want to be absolutely in the safe - use the ec-5's........
-and the older 'cage' type males - not the straight - newer 'ultra' males....

Before I switched all my Deans Ultra to XT60 I used Deans Ultra on my slightly larger Century Swift with no problem. But I'm not a 3D pilot by any means and according to my Eagletree Systems Datalogger my average current was only about 25A with spikes to less than 60A. I plan to use the XT60 on my 500L, which will be here today, it's out for delivery, Yay!

I am in 3D and have no problem with the XT60 connectors. The average consumption is around 20-35Amps, and pikes are in the 60-80 range, a few times above went above 90A. That pose no problem for the XT60. Admittedly the EC5 are better but I think they are overkill for the Trex 500.

Anecdotal, but I've been using Deans on my 500L without issue. Haven't noticed them get particularly warm yet, but I'm not running it harder than stock settings, and no aggressive 3D.

I've liked Deans for a long time and use them on most everything. I know I should get with the times and the newer connectors, but sooo many sets to change to multiple other connectors that I haven't done it yet.

6s is my limit for Deans though.

There is always Xt90 - simple solution - don't have to worry amps and can solder 10 awg all day.

I'd agree the XT90 would be ideal and would be great if you're just choosing all your parts, chargers, balance boards and such. Its quite the professional little connector.

With that being said, the Deans Ultra plug is absolutely more than capable of handling the 500. I have always used Deans and even local flyers use Deans on their 6s 600s! I learned to like the real Deans Ultra because it is easy to connect/disconnect. My ripple current is well below the standards on all my helicopters. So there's no problem there.

I've never seen a Deans melt... the solder joint will actually blow off before the connector melts. So choose other connectors for ease of soldering, or personal preference... but Deans Ultra can handle the current all day. Theres no official rating with Deans. Its all anecdotal and heresay. Though there are videos on Youtube of it holding 340 amps before the solder joint blows off.

12s 600 and 700 helicopters use Deans all day. The only helicopter that will test it.. is a 600 class or above on 6s. The current spikes can be 300+ amps. And even then... its questionable if it fails. The solder joint fails first.

Xt90 is a awesome connector. I use it on my 500L with the Talon 90.. Super easy to solder and I fwel like its solid in construction and holding/grip..I have a friend that uses deans on larger Guage wiring, such as the ones on a cc hv160. He plugs it in and a huge arc and pop happens. Not good haha it really looks like shyt too.... The largest bird I would use deans is a 450 size heli imo. I use xt150 on my 550 size bird and once I get my big boy pants in and buy a 700, I'll use xt150 again.

As, always the cheap way is the first way. Then you learn.

1.) All 6 cells across 2 packs must "match" in order to get maximum flight time and longevity.

2.) My nanotech lipos(hobbyking) has cell resistance of .018, .017, .017, .018, .017, .015 ohms.

3.) My 2nd lipos have cell resistance numbers of .022 to .018 ohms for all 6 cells.

The averages of each pack are different but "within" each pack they match .002 ohms tolerance. That's the difference between a single pack vs two packs.

Guess, which pack will get hotter first?
I know what you are doing, and that exactly how I started powering my trex 500. It's okay for now, just keep your timer at 2-3 minutes!!! Yup,
