Default Anyone setup Align 3GX with Graupner MZ-24?

I'll be receiving my Graupner MZ-24 tomorrow in the mail and would like to get it set up on a T-Rex 600N that I also recently picked up.

The 600N came with the 3GX system and some Spektrum satelites attached. I don't have Spektrum so can't use it till I sort out how to set this up.

I found a youtube video, but it's in German. From the looks of it, I may not have all the wiring that came with the unit, to use a stand alone RX.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It does appear that you'll have to do a standard receiver setup. That means you'll need special cables for the channel signal lines with three wires in one servo connector on one end and three servo connectors, each with one of those wires on its signal pin.

I made up a couple of those cables, and managed to get the 3GX to initialize. I didn't get the channels mapped out exactly right, but I now know it will at least work.

I downloaded the user manual for the radio and the 3GX and I started reading about the SUMD serial output and now I'm wondering if that might be a better option. Anyone here tried using that functionality?

The receiver I have is a GR-24L.

From what I read, the only single line protocol the 3GX recognizes is S.Bus. Maybe they've updated the firmware to support PPM, but I'd be really surprised if they have SUMD support because it's a relatively very small piece of the market.

After 4 programming sessions, it's close to a flyable configuration. Does anyone have a recommendation on what gyro gain % to start with?

The gyro goes to HH mode around 22% in the radio. I currently have 3 flight modes (Normal, Idleup 1, & Idleup 2) with a gyro gain of 30% across the board.

The heli came with an RPM sensor attached to the 3gx, I'm still trying to work out what the governor function is doing or if there is a specific RPM setting in the Align unit. I don't have the PC interface to go in and look.

I tried all of the settings tonight, and couldn't get any life out of the 3gx using the S.Bus port.

Will just have to continue using the receiver looms.

Now I need to figure out the governor settings and tuning to get rid of an elevator bobble.
