Default Tx Battery Drain
I tried using a LP5DSM radio (my DX7 was in the car) with fresh alkaline batteries and the voltage dropped from 6+V to 4.4V in a matter of minutes. When I unplug the sim, the voltage jumps back up.

Sounds like you either need to mod the Tx, or use an adaptor cable to make the Tx work properly with a Sim (or as a buddy box).
