Default UK AHA 2014 News

Hi all,

Please see below a message from the AHA

Happy new year everybody,

I hope you all had a pleasant break, and like most are impatiently waiting for the gloomy weather to lift so that flying can once again start in earnest.

At the end of 2013 the AHA held it's AGM where volunteers put their heads above the parapet to take on the roles of running the association and doing all the things we do behind the scenes. Unfortunately those heads were far fewer in number leaving the committee rather threadbare. This has forced the AHA to reconsider what it will be doing in 2014 to support the hobby and what it can provide it's members. There is a reasonable amount of effort involved in running the association and it's events, not to mention the constant liaison with the BMFA and FAI on safety and technical matters. This falls on a small number of shoulders which has to be fitted around busy personal lives.

Therefore in 2014 there will be no specific AHA competition events outside of the BMFA nationals and Team Trials.

There will also be no members packs.

The AHA website will be moving to be hosted by the BMFA on their new webpage where there is a permanent web master to keep on top of things.

However your £10 will still gain you free entry to both Charmouth events (worth £20!) and give you the joint voice and support that the AHA brings to the helicopter side of our hobby within the all encompassing BMFA ranks.

Without the AHA there will be no "helicopter voice" within the BMFA at all. We are already a tiny minority of the RC hobby world and need all the help we can to make sure we stay noticed.

The AHA has however teamed up with out compatriots in Holland, Belgium and France to offer a European series competition for those that are interested. A website, Facebook page and more news on this will be coming in the next few weeks. Spreading the load of organising events between our neighbours hopefully will mean better events and larger turnouts.

I hope everybody understands and accepts the position the AHA finds itself in and why it can not, and will not, be doing as much as it has in previous years. Unfortunately a small group of people can not completely support everybody in their limited free time.

Look forward to catching up with you all somewhere, sometime in 2014!

Safe flying everybody.

Mark Christy
AHA Chairman

For those who are interested, the Euro Heli Series website is now online www.euroheliseries.net , more details will be added as soon as they are confirmed

Kind Regards

Ian Emery

Default Update for Charmouth March 2014

Hi Everybody,

I'm afraid it's not good news regarding the Charmouth field.

Quote:

"I went up to have a look at the field today. As I drove up, it didn't look to bad, but the water running all over the approach roads should have warned me!
I parked in the adjacent field with the hard standing that we sometimes use. Although the hard standing was OK, as soon as you move off it, the ground underneath is VERY squidgy. There is no way an ordinary car could drive on it without getting stuck.

The main field had a big puddle between the road and the gate, and another just inside the gate. Even 50 yards uphill from the entrance, where its usually firmer, it was still too soft to risk driving on. I would imagine that even with our mat, by the time the burger van had churned all the mud up, entry would be all but impossible.

Its going to take a long, hot summer to dry it out!"

Therefore we have no choice but to cancel flying at the main field for the March event.

Newlands have pushed back room payment until this Friday (21 Feb 14) for you to decide whether you still want to come down or not.

As was mentioned previously the top field at Newlands will still be open for 450 flying and we're actively looking for a sports hall to do some indoor flying.

A number of us are going whatever happens to enjoy the social side and catch up.

Please spread this as far and as wide as you can please to let as many people know as possible.

Many Thanks

The AHA

Default AHA Season just around the corner

Hi All,

Well it's a little over 2 weeks until the AHA season really gets going. On the 11th May there is the first F3N league competition at Raydon & District Model Aircraft Club, Suffolk. This promises to be a great competition and was fully booked just a few days after the dates were released.

Over the same weekend, several AHA Members will be travelling to Lendelede, Belgium for the first Euro Heli Series F3C Competition. This also promises to be a great weekend with pilots from six different Countries going head to head.

Results will be posted on the AHA and Euro Heli Series Websites shortly after the event, but if you would like to come along and see some fantastic flying, why not join us (I appreciate Belgium might be a little too far).

Kind Regards

Ian

Default AHA Upcoming Events 2014

Hi all,

Just a quick reminder that the British F3C Team trials will be held at Tring on 17 August and F3C/F3N Team Trials at the BMFA British Nationals at Barkston Heath over the weekend of 23-25 August 2014. Everyone is more than welcome to either enter or spectate. If anybody is available to Judge F3C over these 2 dates it would be very much appreciated.

Also over the weekend of 6/7 September there is the final round of the 2014 Euro Heli Series at Dartford. For those that don't know about this, it is a series of F3C Competitions that have been held in Belgium, France, The Netherlands and the final one in the UK. We've had pilots from as far away as Russia enter and they have been really enjoyable weekends and great competition. More details can be found on the website euroheliseries.net or the Euro Heli Series Facebook group.

Kind Regards

Ian

Default Charmouth flyin this weekend

The AHA are pleased to announce that the 30th Anniversary of Charmouth is this weekend! First held in 1984, Charmouth is the UK's biggest and longest running fun fly. With the emphasis on fun! All the details for accommodation and site location can be found on the AHA website (www.theaha.co.uk).

With the close association with Newlands holiday camp, Charmouth is one all the family can enjoy. Set on the UK south coast there's plenty to do for those members of the family not interested in helicopters. In the evening the bar is always well stocked and there is space for indoor flying and of course the now infamous Charmouth indoor challenge!

Gimmick free, you can enjoy full days of flying without interruption. We aim Charmouth squarely at the club pilot, with dedicated flight stations for scale and beginners. Of course if you want to show of your latest 3D moves, there's plenty of space for that too!

Accommodation is selling out fast, so if you want to be there for the weekend make sure you book up soon!

Hot food is available all day from our excellent catering team. There is also a raffle with some amazing prizes.

Hope to see you there!

The AHA Committee."
