I am able to get any design you have laser cut for vinyl stickers or masking. Can also do the same with quite a few other materials up to 1/4 inch. PM me.

Default Anyone have any vector stuff?

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any vector art that they would share. I am looking for anything, Calvins flying helis, running away. Logos... Any heli type vector art. I like to cut them and share them with fellow flyers.

Thanks,

Jamie

If you want to cut your own stickers or masks you need a vinyl cutter, software, vinyl and time. If you have experience with vector graphics programs that helps, if you do not expect a noticeable learning curve.

A decent vinyl cutter will cost $300 - $2000 depending on what you want to do. A good 8" cutter would be around $350. Vinyl is fairly cheep, an 8" x 50 yard roll is around $40 ... less than a dollar a yard. Most cutters come with some basic software and plug-ins for Adobe Illustrator, Corel DRAW or some other vector graphics program.

It is kind of like picking up another hobby. You will make a lot of mistakes as first, wasting some vinyl and time.

Here is where I purchased mine.

Here are some nice how-to videos to get an idea what to expect. IMO.. it is stupid simple to use, software, cutting and all.

Good Luck!

Hi Farrell,

thanks for the information..

I think a very basic one should do.. or at lease for now.. I'm only looking at doing words and some simple grafix...

I'm quite sure I'll have a hard time learning to use the software.. I might have to take up some course to learn to use..

Is there one that you would recommend for a newbie like myself.. something that's not to dificult to learn...

cheers

I have the Roland SX-8, its the old version of the SV-8. The software will let you take a regular image and it will trace it to pull out shapes. Depending on the quality of the image you give it, the quality of the shapes it produces will vary. Cutting out letters and simple shapes is easy.

If you want to start making designs and cutting custom masks for airbrushing, that is where most of the learning curve will be. Learning how to use a vector graphics program is not hard but it takes time to do it right. Learning how to do something simple like get a wavy checkered flag shape can tax your patience

As for what programs to use, I don't think I can be much help. I hate using Windows, I run Linux and use Inkscape for vector work. I think Inkscape is also available for Windows but I'm not sure on that. Since my cutter is not supported in Linux I use VMware to run Corel DRAW 8 and use the Roland plug-in to cut from that program... I have to jump through hoops. If you like Windows you could probably use Corel DRAW or Adobe Illustrator for all of the work (design and cut)
