Default Build off / fast build

Is there any such thing as a rc heli build off? As i was sitting at the work bench the other night, basically rebuilding my whole trex 500 from scrarch after my latest screw up i caught myself thinking, i wonder what the fastest build ever done is? Is there a build off where everybody has the same kit / tools and sees who can build it the fastest and the best? Im not talking about slapping something together with no care or threadlock really rast, thats not hard, im talking about building it right. How fast can you build a heli? What kit? What is your fastest build?

I have only ever built one kit, trex 500 pro, id say 12 hours or so. Also my first build, i could do it in 6 now i think. I bet pro pilots mechanics can build one real fast.

Never heard of one, would the winner get to keep the heli while the others pay for theirs.

Never seen a heli build-off. Fun idea but sounds expensive! Perhaps we could get a manufacturer to donate some kits with the fastest builder getting to keep his kit!

Interesting you mention a Rex 500. I have built and set up at least 40 helis including a couple of those and last year, on a rainy Sunday, offered to build a Rex 500 combo kit for a flying buddy. This was a flybarred kit and from opening the box to spooling up for the maiden flight was exactly 4hours and 25minutes

I think it would be awesome. There Re build off's for everything else! Im not sure how it would work as far as financially, i guess everybody would buy a kit and the winner gets their money back. It would be fun to do this at a big event like ircha or heli invasion. It could be cheap if you just did it with Align 450's or something.

I dont think team mechanics (people that build / fix helis for pro's or for a living) should be allowed to compete, anybody that builds 5 kits a week obviously has an unfair advantage over us that can only afford a build a year.

Oh man.. Maybe if a crash results due to the FAST build, the builder is disqualified??

Absolutely! Everybody flies their own heli they built at the end of the competition. Any mechanical failures you are dq'd. And all helis are flybar to make sure nobody has an advantage by previous setting up or using the fbl unit that wouldve been used.

I think we've got a great concept here! I can see this being a crowd-pleaser for 3DM or IRCHA. Who's gonna be first to sponsor this?!

Could of swore that in the past one of the manufacturers did this at ircha. First to build and fly took the heli home.

I second this! WE NEED A SPONSOR!!! any takers? Would be awesome PR to show that many people at once how good the mechancs and engineering for the brand is, as well as how easy and quick the build can be!

Has this been done as mentioned? I think its an awesome idea.
