Default goblin 500 /extension from motor to esc

was wondering if someone could give me a tip:

I'm wiring my goblin 500 and need to extend my motor wires to my esc . question is the motor runs 10 awg coming out from my quantum motor . wiring isnt long enough to go to esc so i have to extend it with bullet connectors. first question should i heat shrink where the the bullets for the extension are for extra safety? next question is its only got 10 awg coming from motor to esc obviously im going to use 10 awg for the extension to the esc, but the esc to battery connection wiring is 12 awg. since im coming from mostly 3s batteries , question is
do i want to charge with 10 awg wiring to the 6s battery or use 12 awg since the battery is 12 awg ? or does it matter cause i have a 10 awg setup now coming off of my charger. any help would be appreciated . coming from mostly 3s setup with 450 heli's

thanks

For charging, it wont' matter what gauge wire you use from battery to charger so long as it's enough to cover the charge amps, most chargers won't do more than 30a so 10 or 12ga is more than you need but fine from the charger. they don't have to match if that's what your asking. Longer distances should have larger wire.

You'll want to put shrink wrap over any bullets to keep them from touching each other, just like on the motor side or esc side. Not sure the best way to extend the ESC wires, could use bullets I guess but may just want to solder an extension onto the esc side. You typically don't want to lengthen or shorten your motor wires themselves though as some motors the external wiring is part of the motor winding and should be left alone. Not sure on yours. So bullets might work unless someone else knows of better solution.

airbasher thanks for the charging advice wasnt sure . yea i was gonna not shorten the motor wires. but i was gonna use bullets from the motor wires to the esc . not sure what u mean by a extension from the esc? wouldn't that be the same thing? u need some sort of connector from (bullets to connect from the end of the motor wire to the new wire leading to the esc .

I was probably just not fully understanding what you meant about adding bullet connectors. The way I took it was you were a little short from the motor to esc and wanted to lengthen it by adding an extra set of bullets between them as an extension. I was already assuming you had bullets on both the motor leads and esc leads as is typical.

In other words I was thinking you were making up a wire to put between them to get the extra length, like a servo extension but with bullets.

I personally would remove the wires from the esc and solder on longer ones to reach the motor. Adding an extension with bullets gives you extra points of potential failure. Although, soldering on your esc isn't something that everyone is comfortable with.
