If you leave the FM gyro line off your Rx and install your 401 you should be fine

I'm using a 401 for yaw and really do not want to use the FM gyro. Do I have to have the FM gyro plugged in at all for the system to work? Maybe a really basic question but I can't decide if the stabilization is based upon the FM gyro (and/or camera) or is all stabilization done in the "little black box".

Thanks

No,just leave the gyro connected to the receiver as is and the tail servo to the gyro, FM does not require anything to be connected to its rudder ports The POS and BAL functiond will still work perfectly as they do for me (GP750).

The FM gyro is not that brilliant anyway.

Thanks for those quick replies guys, but my question is even more basic. Do I even have to carry the FM gyro on the bird at all?

Yes, all three gyros live in that little box

You may need to mount the GY401 on a separate boom mount.

Thanks Pril, I just re-read the FM manual and pretty much confirmed to myself as much. Thought it would be too good to be true.

That now makes 5 gyros (well 7 actually) on this bird. The wiring and TX configuration is hurting my head!

CoastalTom,

Hi. Just reading the FM threads for insights as my own FM is currently installed in my parts drawer where it cannot cause any tail wags. I hope I don't get nightmares of that little blackbox making my cabinet go back and forth in the middle of the night.

Am waiting for my HK401 gyro which I hope will answer two questions: 1) what is the culprit behind my FM tail wag 2) is my FM gyro defective?

Anyway, to your tricopter. Please let us know if you can remove all 7 gyros and use only the FM. Not an expert, just toying with ideas. The pitch collective (mix) can serve as throttle for the three fans? The balance function of the FM can take the place of the three gyros? For cyclic control, well, the three fans on the tricopter are positioned very much like the three servos working on a CP heli? OB1
