The Scorpion 3226 1400kv is another candidate. I have both and the 1400kv has more power than the 1600kv.

I run the 3226 1600 at about 2850

but i've heard the 1400 version is ridiculous at about 2900 rpms on the ESP non pro version.

The 1600kv is a 6 pole motor and the 1400kv is 10 pole. 1400kv is a couple hundred watts more powerful. For an ESP, gearing wise, the 1600 is a much better option if running governed.

I have the 1400kv governed on a 16t (162t main gear) at 2750rpm castle and its maxed out. Still rips and I get 4 min flights out of it but would rather have a little more rpm than than torque. You could always go 17t but I'm no willing to do that since I'm only running a 75a esc for a lightweight setup.

Running TC's 15t for mild. 16t for wild.

Couple of quick questions. Would the 3226 and 14 work with the 500L, and which ESC are you guys running with this setup? CC 75 Lite?

Tony, beware of something really important!

I run a Scorpion HK-3226-1600 with a 14T pinion on a souped up Trex 500L, with head speeds between 2900 and 3200 ---see link here, and one thing you have to be warned about and know about, that no one above is telling you!

The Align one way bearings can't handle it!! I go through OWB's on this sucker like condoms on a NY street hooker!!! Doesn't matter what you put there...the bearings are crappy and can't handle the extra power and demand..don't waste too much on this set up.

going with a a powerful motor on a heli that has a mediocre OWB is bad.

Kind regards

Alex

Sounds like KDE needs to make us a new OWB.

I'd be customer number 1 for those as well, maybe I could send a link of this thread to Patrick..

I get about 5 to 10 flight out of the Trex500L with the stock OWB, with this motor and a slightly higher than stock head speed, its very annoying..and if you crash ...forget about it...

Kind regards

Alex

I just finished sending him a email asking if he can help us. I'd even buy the KDE550XF-1200-G3 to go along with it if he did that for us.

Have both too and ran all possible setups. The 1400/ 17t combo is a lipo toaster.

I am on my 3rd owb. Out of 1,060 flights. At least for me they both gave me lots of warning before they failed.

In a email resopnce that I got from Patrick, he recommends running straight cut gears as a way of reducing side loads on the OWB. After my budget recooperates from Xmas, I think I'll pick up his recommended parts and give it a try. 2,900 sounds like fun! Below is a link that Patrick provided to his 500 setup.

That 1350kv is a tank of a motor in the little 500 it's really made for a larger 500 like a goblin. It's hard to get things balanced with that motor. Not impossible just difficult. Your flight time will drop like a rock though. I had it in mine and sold it.
