Default Hobbywing platinum 100a v3 for trex 550. Anyone using it.

Hobbywing platinum 100a v3 for trex 550. Anyone using it. I sold my talon 90 and got a HW platinum 100a v3 w/fan. Really easy to program with the multifunction box. Stronger bec. And castle creations didn't build it. I have the 50a platinum as well for my trex 450. So far so good. So my program box will work for both.
Just wanted to see if any one else was using it on the trex 550 and how you mounted it and your results so far. Thx

I'm using one on my 550 but I used the $5 PC link dongle instead of the box. I'm told that the Platinum programming card will work too.

I use the V2 on my 550 V2. So far so good. But I don't use the internal BEC, I use 2s Life directly to the receiver

I just put one on my 550 V3 because the Talon 90 was getting too hot.
Mounted it under the battery tray. It has the fan. Not sure if I really needed it.
I only have two flights on it so but it came down ice cold as was the motor.
With the Talon the motor and ESC would have been pretty hot.

Is that a Hobbywing fan jazsop? The ESC looks like what I need to replace my hot CC Talon 90, but my local stockist doesn't show any fan for it.

Mine came with the fan. I assume they all do.

That's even better, if that's the case. Thanks.

You can get it with or without the fan. I got mine from Jim's hobby shop on ebay. I think I only paid 78 for it. That was with the fan. I haven't ran my HW platinum 100a yet on my 550 but my 50a is awesome on my 450. Runs the motor very cool and esc. I can't wait to get my 550 up to try it out. Will post results when I do.

Well, I've been flying the Hobbywing esc on my trex 550 and 450 dominator. All I can say is awesome. Absolutely no problems what so ever. Always come down just a tad warm. I'm a sport flier only. No hard 3d, but they are both working great. Got about 30 flts on my 550 and over 300 on my 450. Also. Check out the scorpion lipos on ebay. 74.00 for a 22.2v 5500mah 45c battery. I have 5 of them for my 550 and 6 for my 450. Great packs. I fly for 6:30 on my 550 and have 45 to 50% remaining. Just letting you know. That's half the price of most brands.

Hi,

I use also the HW Platinum 50A in my 450L Dominator 6S and 100A with Fan in my 550L Dominator.

What PWM and Timing is a safe setting. Did you use the HW Standard Settings 15°/32khz on both Heli's?
I can't find right settings from Align.

Regards Frank

On my dominator 450 L I have the 3S set up. I'm running 12° of timing and my PWM frequency is 32 kHz. This works just fine for me, but I'm also just a sport flyer.
On my TRex 550, I have the version three. With the Align 600 MX motor. I am running 15° of timing and 32 kHz PWM frequency. I am running a 100 amp ESC with a fan on my 550 as well. My ESC comes down just barely warm, I really like it a lot. Once again I am not a 3-D flyer, I just like to fly around the skies really fast. I wish Hobbywing made a good speed controller for my T Rex 700. Because I would get one in a heartbeat.

Tagged for interest. Looking at a 550 class heli and it seems like the 90a is marginal. But then everyone seems to advise a 200a esc no matter what application :p

I don't know what kind of flying you will be doing, but a 200 amp esc on a 550 is pretty much over kill. I fly mine with the hobbywing platinum pro 100a with a fan here in Arizona and mine comes down just bearly warm. If I knew it would work on my 700 I would buy another one. But with a 700 I think you need a minimum 120a esc and a 150-160a to give you plenty of margin.
What kind of flying will you be doing. Things like you see these professionals doing in videos or just loops, rolls and fast forward flight. The 100a esc has plenty of capacity to do all this and a lot more. It gives you more margin than the talon 90 that comes with a lot of kits. Plus the hobbywing has a bigger and higher peak BEC than the talon.
If you're flying a at Rex 500 or 550, I would highly recommend the hobby wing platinum pro 100 amp ESC. It's more than enough for these two types of helicopters.

The 200a comment was a bit of a joke. The real zone for 550 class helis is 90-120 amps

I recently installed the HW 100a Pro platinum on my 550L. Thing is great. I never had an issue with a talon 90. That being said, the HW seems to have no issues. I love the additional features it provides. I think the programming unit is fantastic. My only complaint is their timing values seem to be weird (3.5, 7, etc).

I have 120 flts on mine now with not a lick of trouble. And the bec is great too. I have the fan on mine and comes down maybe warm. It's great. Highly recommended. Just wish they made on big enough for my 700.

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Castle ESC, it just feels like the HW 100A V3 was made for the 550L, possibly even the 500L it would be perfect as well. I have the Castle 120HV talon on my Forza 700 and it has been really great. The talon 120 is a really solid ESC given its ratings, features, and price. I believe it is probably under-rated at the 120A rating, but thats ok. However, I am loving the HW on my 450L and 550L.

283 flts on my Hobbywing platinum 100a v3. Working awesome. Highly recommended for the trex 550. Using the built in BEC with stock align 615 servos. Esc never gets hot and easily programable with multifunction box. Well worth the 26 bucks. Can't wait for the 160a hv version to come out for my 700.

Good to hear - nothin but good news on these.
Are you using the gov - if so what do you have set at??

Bought one of the new platinum HV100a -was going to build up another 12s 550 to swing 570's..
Have another w/ CC 80HV to compare against.

Hoping that governor is good as they say it is...
The versatility of this size is amazing - I can run em at 6,8, or 12s - and pretty much any blade size - 520mm to 600mm - I can dial-in pretty much any disk load I want..

I use this esc on my 550 v2. Good esc. I keep the fan on, because it's summer and it was coming down warm, but never hot, and it's there so why not. WIth the fan it's nice and cool.

Only thing I don't like is that there's no way to select 12 pwm, which is weird since that's a pretty standard frequency, so I use 8 for my 600mx motor instead.

The program box is also nice and cheap, I'd get one too.
