2200 sounds reasonable. I think I'm more in the 1800 to 2000 range. Just me at the field, no peer pressure thankfully.

Default It lives!

I think I finally got the gremlins out. The new X5 tail hub and grip set and a much better BEC (Western Robotics), and a little tuning on the Ikon, and it's flying great. I guess I don't fly hard, because I really don't get the need for a governor on electric
Today I just brought it with me to stop at the high school (pretty large field actually) on my way to running errands, and tested it out with some lower gains and the shakes are gone, tail has a tiny bounce, but had fun with some rolls and huge loops. I'm pretty convinced my catastrophic failure was that you can't rely on the 10 amp Castle BEC with 550 blades. Looking around this forum, I've read several issues (not just with Castle) that 550 blades and 6 cell is really pushing the amp draw. I may at some point try out the mid-boom and some 500-520 blades, but for now, I'm really enjoying my $18 550 blades from HeliDirect for just modest flying. I think maybe as I progress I may run into tail issues with my current setup (or just get longer tail blades). For now, all seems pretty good at around 2100 head speed. No tail blowouts with flips anyway.

Anyway, I'm a happy camper.

Glad to hear that you got it sorted out.

BTW, you can't rely on a Castle bec even with 200mm blades.

I don't have any personal experience with the Western Robotics bec, so I can't comment on it. I have had personal experience with the Castle, twice, and neither turned out well. I am currently using the cheap HobbyWing becs in 3 helicopters and haven't had a problem with any of them in over 3 years.

My only experience with Castle is on this heli I bought used. Castle ESC up in smoke on 3rd flight, BEC failure 2 flights later causing major damage.
