Here's something I just made to house the electronics on my turbine. Admittedly it's over kill and will probably survive nose first crash. But I've been wanting something to keep the ecu, gyro and regulator safe. and there isn't much store space on the predator

I would worry that the momentum of the box in a crash or very hard landing could take out the turbine.

The electronics are definitely save, almost bulletproof
But nice job

But if you crash hard, this can be the result

Good idea,
But the ones I have seen on the market are a plastic with a foam insert..
Aren't you concerned of RF interference putting it in a metal box, which is touching a metal frame with no insulation ?

Ouch on the photos Trex,

Ouch on the photos Trex,
Don't know yet. I got the idea from the aluminum nose cone made for the trex700. I have one on my trex700 turbine and it's worked fine all these these years. But I'll keep attentive to this and see how it goes.

I don't do much more than hover with this pig . Been thinking of replacing the side plates with a structural roll cage just in case however.

I'd be more concerned about damaging my turbine. How about a box for the turbine? LOL.

Hi Matt
I'll have the rx outside the box. What would the symptoms of RF interference should I look out for

Lol
That's next on my schedule I'll have a double wrap of frames below the turbine essentially a belly pan. I have a CNC mill so it's easy to cut

Luckily it was not my turbine. This turbine is purchased by someone in this terrible state and completely rebuilt.
I believe there is a thread of this heli here on the forum.

Ahh I remember that thread on the dark side well..
But boy did it get some people wound up, to find out my friend Bell who is a Wren fanatic giving advice on how to disassemble a Jetcat.

I had just bought my zealous then, and were building the MW54, and as Bell was advising person we were using my Jetcat as reference..

It did open up a can of worms, some of the PMs Bell got was funny, certainly was a lot back then that had a financial interest.. But as that Jetcat was opened up for all to see it was clear they were not as well made as people had been lead to believe, myself included who had 3 of them. As no-one could ever get near their Jetcats they always had to be sent back to Germany or else you voided the warranty. Which is why in end I went Green.I kept my old PHT3/SP5, but got rid of the other 2 and replaced them with Wren Mw54's.
Bell and myself said a long time ago, that the Jetcopter was a bad design with those metal fuel tanks, in a crash they rupture as they are part of the frame.. but as always was shot down in flames..

DDragon..
The reason I questioned about the Metal box was in your post you said " something to keep the ecu, gyro and regulator safe"
Having all those so close together in a confined space is in my opinion asking for trouble" and with 2.4 now you don't get warning, just a lock out, unless you have a frame loss counter (JR) I know Futaba does not have one ( which I have)..
It was a just a friendly heads up that was all..
My Gyro is well away from the ECU, and that is well away from the regulators..

The way to test for interference is put the hellie on the ground and point it nose in to you, depending on the TX you are using there normally is range check mode which lowers the power output of TX.. walk away with TX twiddling the sticks and have a helper stand by the heli to see if the swash plate jerks or stalls, or if the servos lock..

Matt

Hi Matt
No offense taken. I just wasn't sure of what to look for and thought I'd ask. Now that I did I am that much more knowledgable :-)

The gyro box as seen in the picture will be on one side with the ecu and the regulator on the otherside seperated by about a 8-10 mm wall, not sure if that's a good thing or not.

But I'll run the test as directed before I fly away

Cheers

Have everything all wired and working. Installed the new ecu. Will have to test it in the spring. Surprisingly the canopy still fits.
