Default Futaba 14SG and 2s lipo

Hey can the Futaba 14SG work on 2s lipo or do I have to use life 6.6v if I want to upgrade the battery.

I would recommend the 6.6v LiFe pack, remember that the 2S Lipo when fully-charged is 8.2v.

I did have a compacted-list for all the different LiFe's that were available (somewhere, I think it's over-on the otherr-site) but I do have these (2) listed in this thread-link ;

https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=562048

Here's the list ;

Turnigy 2S 2100mAh (specific for the T14SG, check for in-stock status in the US Warehouse)

Hyperion 2S 2100mAh (have read that this one fits but may be a little-tight)

Hyperion 2S 2080mAh (supposed to be a little-better fit than the 2100mAh model)
http://media.hyperion.hk/dn/fg3radio/

Hobbico 2S 1900mAh (Tower Hobbies)

Pro-Tek 2S 2100mAh
http://www.amain.com/ProTek-R-C-LiFe...100mAh/p165091

Hope that Helps !!

I have a couple of spare LiFe packs but the standard NiMh packs run the 14SG for so long I rarely need to bother, much easier to charge the NiMh packs in the Tx anyway with the basic power pack.

I was told by one user that the Hyperion 2S 2080mAh LiFePO4 pack could be charged with the stock Futaba charger (utilizes a low charge-rate and the pack has an overcharge-protector).

I'm still getting great results from my stock-pack (NiMh) at this point as well

KBaksh,

I believe that the LifeSource 2S 6.6v 1900mAh pack is a better-fit than the larger 2100mAh pack (double-check the pack dimensions, I know that the 1900mAh pack was the one that was recommended (specifically for the T14SG) on the Tower Hobbies site).

I'm not for certain that you can use the stock Futaba wall-wart charger as I don't see anything in the description that indicates that there is an over-current protector included as part-of the pack.

You don't necessarily need the LifeSource specific charger to charge LiFePO4 type packs, if you already have a good charger set-up it's possible it will charge LiFePO4 packs (I know that my iCharger 3010b has this option).

If the 14SG is anything like the 8FG power consumption wise, I run my 8FG with a 2S, 2500 mAh LiPo without any problems for two years already. LiFE will get you close to Nicad voltages but there are plus and minus for LiFE (as well as LiPo) packs.

If the 14SG is anything like the 8FG power consumption wise,
From some-of the feedback that I have read (and my own use) the T14SG doesn't seem to be as power-hungry as the T8FG.
Almost everyone that I know that has / or had an 8FG replaced the stock-pack with a Lipo.

I haven't really heard / read any input on the Robbe Lipo that ug6gkg posted the link to but I have read of a few T14SG owners that were running a Lipo (7.4v) in theirs.

I'm just a little-concerned that a fully-charged 2S 7.4v Lipo is too-much voltage for a TX. that was running a fully-charged NiMH pack at 6.9-7.0v right from the factory (but that's just me).

I'm not trying to knock the Robbe Lipo-pack, I wouldn't mind having a Lipo (instead-of the LiFEPO4).

Is there a reason that the Robbe Lipo-pack should be charged at only a 500mAh-rate (?)

Well there you go! A 2S lipo is fine for the 14SG.

The 14SG also has a voltage alarm setting for 2cell LiPo packs.

I would measure the voltage at the leads with a meter.

I plug a 2s 2500 pulse lipo in my and use it for about and hour to test it, It shows 8.2v on the screen and then later drop to 7.9v something like that. I am not sure about long term use.

I bet it will stay around that 7.9V for a long time before it moves down again. Take a look at a typical lipo discharge curve and there's a sweet spot where the voltage doesn't change for a while.
