Default Look out when assembling the Advanced X-Frame from Microheli

Maybe I am just a duff-us... But just in case I am not:

Today I received all the upgrade parts to turn my Microheli Frame into the Advanced X Frame... (queue the orchestra...) Anyhow as I am about to disassemble my frame for the third time I thought I should share quickly my brain freeze... twice.

First I mounted the studs the wrong way (which actually turned out was the right way... hence the third disassembly) I wanted to invert the servos and stop finally the bending of the push rods. As I had already mounted the servos on the studs my eye caught a glance off the old main frame sides with the mini studs and I realized that I had inverted the two sides... So I took it apart and copied the stud pattern of the old frame...

As I was done remounting the servos I realized that I was supposed to mount the push rods BEFORE attaching the servos... smart! I know...

And now again as I was reinserting the main shaft with the swash and attaching the pushrods to the swash... guess what... they are anything but going up to the swash in a straight line... The Aileron servo is to far back and the Pitch servo is to far to the front... so the sides are inverted from the original position... crap!

I thought I was enough mechanical inclined to get that little mod done... as it turns out I wasn't...

I attach the pictures from the Microheli website... I should have had a better eye on those pix... So that no one may end up as dumb founded as me...

You are now allowed to laugh your face or butt off!!!!

Fly Safe!

I do not like the straight servo to swash links on the elevator and aileron. That has damaged servos in a crash written all over it.

Default X-Frame upgrades

@ Ermac:

I bought them at WOW Hobbies. I live mostly in Europe now and they were, so far, great in getting me all parts within a week and mostly no customs... and it's mostly a one stop shopping with them considering paying shipping and customs on every little idly biddy piece from ten different places... jeez...

http://www.wowhobbies.com/e-flite-bl...p-x-parts.aspx

@ NCcraig:

I build them to be put in scale fuses... so they "should" be fine... I am more concerned that they will burn out with my 4 blade set up... I think I have to look for more power full units. (Any ideas???)

But about the crash resistance... I'll let you know next week after the test flight!!!

Fly safe!

Of course, they were fishing for what we wanted just before they were going to release it, then they made changes and delayed the release.

Oh one more thing...

The wholes, in the new frame sides, for the front canopy studs are to small, I had to ream them out with a 1.4mm drill bit... so much for Plug and Play...

I also noticed the left and right aileron have straight linkages to the swash when the servos are inverted so does that mean we have to buy two more packages of linkages and just use the elevator link for these two servos?

I am beginning to like my old frames more and more.

I was told that the frame, when ever that's supposed to be released, will come with two straight links... we'll see that when we see that, but until then...

I got those which are identical to the mCP X ones, just straight:

http://www.wowhobbies.com/blh3208_servopuchrodset.aspx

But... these are half the price and work as well, actually they are slightly thicker and sturdier:

So does the "X Frame" come with straight pushrods or not?

Default MH Quality control???

I just converted 2 more of my MH Frames to the X frame...

I had to re-drill every single hole which was to hold the canopy mounts in place. Again the CF sides, I knew that but the main bearing hub? I had to use a 1.6mm drill bit so the supplied CF canopy mounts would fit... what's up with that? Quality Control Micro Heli???

Just saying...

Fly safe,

Erwin

And I've been thinking about getting one of these mounts
Because they can accept 3mm booms

Might have to look at RH instead

Thanks,

FCA.

Speaking of 3mm booms, who are using them

I put together my X frame this weekend and had no issues, everything went together nicely.
It was also from wow hobbies.
The MH landing skids however, theres another story...

Yaaaay, I'm not the only one. Lol.
I did almost the same thing. After I put the frame together I kept looking at the links wondering why they weren't straight. Then I noticed why. The frame sides servo mounts are offset from each other. Dough!
And I would like to add that I have MH frames on both my mcpx's and the went together perfectly. Well... atleast after I fixed what I was doing wrong. Lol

I use it.... But i only could find 3.2mm.... so i just cut the ends to shape and good 2 go... better for the X frame I find. This way i get a nice snug fit, before with the SR 120 boom piece it wouldn't hold, i had to CA it before putting it on to get a tight fit... my 2 cents.
