Vlad nice work on the Knipex and yes expensive suckers.
It took me a few days to work up the nerve to grind down a perfectly functional plier

Thanks. Well, I did not quite put it on the grinder right away myself. It was hard to commit to it but I knew it had to be done. The small Dremel grinding wheel was key to finishing it off perfectly before sanding. And its best to have the dremel in a fixed position while holding the pliers in both hands. The dremel drill press would be perfect but I have yet to purchase that accessory.

have a dremel myself but had access to a drill press so took very little time
money and effort well spent I'd say. Quote:

I modified a pair of jewelers wire wrapping pliers to help reach down the stator a bit. Polished them to 1500 grit, and smoothed off all rough edges
one other invaluable set of tools. A gunsmith's punch set, including a G10 large diameter punch that is great for tightening up the winding groups Last edited by Todd Moriarty; 01-26-2013 at 05:04 PM.. Reason: Added pictures |

Stator
I hold the stator with a vice. Using my hand feels awkward.
Also, my favorite tools are Knipex. But I shop regularly at http://www.kctoolco.com/Knipex-Tools-s/2506.htm. |

Those are perfect.
The only thing they can bend over extensive use

Its steel made. i checked it doesn't deform. bends just tiny bit under pressure which is good because it kind of sits itself well on the coils/wire.

Omerco, I really like yours. Looks like they were tempered ( a good thing) by the grinding as mine were see the blueish color around the tips on yours?..... I like them because they are symmetrical . Where did you get yours? I may need you to send me a pair if I cannot get them myself. 1BOHO |

Lately, I've been thinking about grinding the jaws on my Knipex wrench pliers narrower so they'll fit into smaller stators and tighter spots.

I see the comments they are hard to find and expensive. I dont know where people shop but mine were easily found on ebay and werent nearly as expensive as many other quality machine shop tools. They are hardened and feature a patent design so you can expect to pay a small fee.
Omerco's look like they could be made in the machine shop. I just dont have access at this time but they look very doable from a machinist point of view. Prototype, I dont think you should go too far with them in that re-guard. Belcom did a good grind on his . They will work but still are stout. Youre only goint to get so far down in there anyway once the adjacent coils are wound. The propeller blades help you to flatten them down down between the arms.I try to get them as flat as possible befor the pliers touch them. The less I have to use them the better.Seem like small stators would use smaller gauges in most cases making their need less or not at all.... 1BOHO |

Nice link those pliers there would be really nice to prepare for such a thing as we do. I think theyd work better than the knipex.

I remember Omerco, but I thought you said you got yours from a local jeweler and you could not get anymore because I wanted a pair and had asked you could you get them for me.
