Diabolo 600 SE 8S Build
Well, my build is finally about to begin. I have built many other helis. I think I counted about 20 or so. My last build was an Oxy 5 HF. Love it. Great heli, with very high quality. I enjoy flying Logos, the Oxy 5HF, and a Piuma 700. I've really come to enjoy a special sort of setup. I think the Diabolo 600SE will be a nice place to start the next adventure.
The Minicopter community is so unique, and within which I have so many friends, I want to share the experience of my build. I hope you all will point out corrections or opportunities for improvement to get it right. For the most part, I am willing to do what it takes to make this a good build. It will probably not be expeditious, as I am still working full time, and only have so much discretionary time to devote. And I am past those days of overly anxious marathon builds or "rooster pulls". I want to savor this build and fully appreciate the many details Gerd and his team have invested that set Minicopter apart.

The Box arrives...
Very business like. Just a very sturdy box, extremely well-packed. Thank you to Chuck and Gerd for the care to get it here without issue...

What's in the box, you ask?
Spread on my table all the goodies from within....
Gerd packed every carbon fiber item with paper separators to prevent scratches. I already love his attention to detail!

Canopy and Boom
Not like the machined parts to come, but that big 30mm boom, and the ultra-sleek black Diabolo Classic canopy. Bright fluorescent contrasting foil, scheme #12. 3D printed blade caddy.

Wonderfully Machined Parts
I think it's the exquisite quality of the machine parts that are the most satisfying to behold. What more can I say? I am a mechanical engineer of the past 36 years. I love mechanical bits! All are bagged sequentially from 1 through 11. I am still becoming familiar with the build sequence, so I am sure to stumble and learn as I go. Also, pictured is the Pyro edition engine plate which is recommended for these motors. I will be using a Pyro 650. Rivi knew this, and reminded me to order one with my kit. I wouldn't have known until too late to include it. Gerd then included it instead of the stock plate. Thanks Rivi and Gerd!

Congrats you finally get to build it
That black canopy is awesome looking. Visibility with the yellow windshield will be excellent.

Congratulations Rob!
I'm very curious what your impression of Diabolo will be. I have to admit that it was Spencerkey who pointed me to the motor mount for the Pyro |

Thanks guys. Appreciate the sentiments. This will go along way towards my New Year's resolution to "fly more German helicopters".

Assembly begins...
Actually the preliminary step was to go over the edges with a medium grit sandpaper. I use washable foam emery boards for this purpose. I like the control I get using them.
I like to use pipe cleaners, cut into small segments for cleaning internal threads. Here I have the second stage gear hub which is tapped M3. I bend the segment into a sort of "z" shape so I can use it like a crank handle. Dip the pipe cleaner in alcohol and simply clean the threads out so they will receive threadlocker.

Minicopter frame assembly
Assembly begins very simply by installing the main mast bearing plates. Use the main shaft as a guide to align them. Suffice to say, this chassis has such exacting tolerances that would have made my tool & die-maker Dad proud.
Flip side with main gear and shaft in position. Zero vertical play. The black segment barely visible below the main gear is a composite spacer. Precision spacers are provided to fine tune out any play. None were needed.

Adding the first stage shaft and gears
Here you see the one-way hub installed in the first stage gear. Exact fit tolerances. They are not loosely fit. They are very precise. Very careful to gently move the hub into position. The transmission is clearly designed to handle anything we can throw at it and will do so for a long time to come...
The fist stage mounted up. This was the first challenging point for me. The first stage pinion is a very tight fit. I needed to use my arbor press. I made several position adjustments until the secondary shaft was flush with the top of the bearing plate as shown in the manual. I had the shaft assembled with the gear and pulley, and needed to take it back apart so I could safely press the pinion gear into position. Once it was flush, the entire assembly fit was PERFECT. Zero vertical play, so shimming needed. And the second stage mesh has zero backlash. Here you see the tail belt guide roller subassemblies. The one with the pivot arm will be tensioned with an elastomer band.

Frames joined Sixteen M3x8's
Left side frame joins the party. Everything fits precisely. Decided this was a good point to stop and capture the progress pics. I will share some additional pics of this stage of assembly which will show the boom clamps which I didn't mention earlier in my next update.
Next up will be lower frames and battery tray rails.

Thank you! It is stunning how well the parts go together. The secondary shaft with pinion goes into exact position with zero backlash. I don't get how this is possible! Gerd's efforts to control the fit tolerances are amazing.
