Default 6HVU squeaking

I'm getting what I'd describe as a squeak or squeal sound on inverted climb outs. It's not super loud, but definitely noticeable. Does not happen when upright.

Any ideas on what it might be? I do have a very tiny vertical slop on the main shaft. I need to reset the clamp collar. Could that be the source of the squeak?

Actually after thinking about it a bit more I'd call the sound a chirp, like a cricket.

Try adding lube to the belt tensioner roller bearings, Also check main shaft bearings and pinion support bearing

Check the main gear. When under load the main gear could be pushing against the frame especially when the shaft lock is loose.

Mine started squeaking today and I can see the motor support bearing is shot

Mmmm... my 6HVU began squeaking some weeks ago and yesterday the noise became unbearable, it turned out that it came from the motor. The rotating can was rubbing against the top cap big time.

I'm not sure why this happened. I simply removed the motor's cap and the noise is now gone.

Not sure on this motor can rub. I've seen this before on a 4926. I am afraid it's a result of the can having moved away from the cooling fan. A snap ring prevents the shaft and fan from moving. Look at edge of the can on the fan end and see if it appears to have created a small gap. I saw you removed the end cap in your other post.

Lubing the belt with silicon may help (it did on my Atom 500).

The idler pulley bearings were lubed, but the belt squeaked against the pulley flanges.

The can didn't separate from the fan. I think that something inside the fan has worn out due to the friction against the neighbor bearing.

A problem I see in this motor is that the relative positions of the magnets and the stator core generate a strong magnetic pull that forces the can against the bearing.

Okay. I understand, but something moved for the can to rub the cap. Was just trying to think how that happened. The cap shouldn't be able to move as it's captured between motor mount and stator. Shaft is pressed into the fan, with set screws. At this point, I consider that either the shaft moved upward which is unlikely because of the shaft snap ring. Another possibility is that the fan hub drifted out of position on the shaft. In this case, it would have moved upward in the heli. How did you end up remedying the motor failure you experienced previously?

I used a KDE shaft to replace the original that was bent in the crash. Interestingly, the squeak took several flights to develop.

I don't think the displacement of the can is related to the shaft, as it does nothing to prevent this (and shouldn't do). The snap ring only prevents a movement the other way around (i.e. away from the cap).

Looks like the crash affected the motor in ways I didn't anticipate, but it's working normally since I removed the cap.

Cheers!
