is it a bad idea to get an ice 80hv esc v1... instead of getting the more expensive ice2 esc? (if they are in stock anywhere)

Ask yourself this; is it worth losing my $800 heli in a huge fireball? Spend the extra cash & get the Ice2!

i fly a 550 fbl... i get spikes well over 80 amp....hobbywing? .....who?

Yes it's a bad idea.

The standard 550 runs 6S so doesn't need an HV series ESC. For 6S, the Phoenix ICE 100 is fine,

You only need a CC HV if you are running > 8S.
