Default Where are we on battery sizes?

Normaly battery selections is a huge issues on all helicopters, and threads on the topics are plentyfull, but there seems to be very little tallk about it in this sections. I'm currently using 2x5000mAh Nanotech 35C packs, and 2x5300mAh 30C Gens Ace packs. Both with 60+ cycles on them. The Gens Ace seems to offer just a tad more punch, both both packs works well. Both gives me 5mins on 2150 headspeed and around 25% left on the packs afterwards. They go straight to a PL8 to be charged again after a flight.

It's quit common for people to go with 4000mAh packs for 700 sizes, any many seems to notice very little addes flighttime by going to 5000mAh packs. Anyone tried both sizes on the Goblin and care to share what flighttimes your getting?

I'm thinking I need a third set to fly pretty much none stop (1 set takes 20mins to charge on the PL8). Any advice on what to go with? ThunderPower is not a option sadly.

pulse had a bad wrap at first but i have 8 of these now and the newer, from what ive been told are much better IR is low on all, i have 2 4500 65c and 6 5000 45c power difference is noticable on 6s but not 12 for my setups flight times are almost identical 4:30 hard flights i bought 2 4500 65c pulse last october and they look like footballs but wer also flown on a 550 with kde 600xf pulling 4300watt peaks 185 amps. on 12s s these newer ones barely get warm and have killer punch compared to the voltz 35c 5100 and nanotech 45c 5000. i will continue to by these id think that with 4000mah i would maybe drop 30 sec off but thats just guessing i have run 3300 65c pulse in the gobbler once to see what taking 1.5 lbs off would be like and only got 3 min and packs were still amazingly cooler than one would imagine, came back at 3.75/cell. i prefer the extra weight, feels more stable

I experimented with 4500mah packs, and found that I could only get the same flight time if I reduced the headspeed. No free lunch for me. But less weight at lower headspeeds flew well. But in the end I prefer the 5000mah packs.

I went for the 45C pulse. The 65C are ~900g, almost 100g heavier each. After discovering that Bert was running and was happy with the latest 45C Pulse I gave them a try. 40 cycles now and I'm still very happy with them.

Also running GensAce 5300. Interestingly they perform best on the second charge at the field. Like a lot better.1st discharge is ok, but second is like wow.

The standard/most used battery size for a 700 with 690mm blades is 12s5000mah, weighing around 1600-1700g.

I have found with smaller packs, the flight time shortens, and the heli feels floaty. With bigger packs, flight time can be improved but the heli becomes too "heavy".

I get slightly better performance with the Pulse 45C vs my gens. But the Gens are no slouch. Looking at the FDR, the data suggests they are very close for my setup. So 30C Gens are more like 45C packs performance wise.

How is the fit with the Pulse? The Gens Ace 5300 fits okay, but I'm not super happy with the fit. But they do performe noticable better than my 35C nano's, so I'm going with Gens or possible Pulse for my next set. Only have two sets now, and even with charing on the field that leaves for some downtime unless there's alot of people flying that day.

I've put gens ace in mine and there's no room at all for swell or or error. The pulse do give u a few mm. Not much but more than GA. The 4500 65c pulse give even a couple more. I've been happy with them. Have 4 4500 65c and just got 4 more 5000 45c to total 6 of these. Got 6 sets total, half of these I have had from my 550. 5 sets pulse And 1 set voltz 5100 35c. Now if u want alot of clearance the voltz will be what u want. It has PLENTY compared to pulse, gens ace, or nano-tech. These are the only brands I've had experience with. Haven't flown gens ace just slid it into G700 to check fit

My Pulse 45C 5000mah slide in easily, with good clearance to the pinion protection plate.

Note that to fit the GensAce you have drop the battery tray to the lower position. After that there is just 1mm of space to the pinion plate.

I finally finished my build and got my first two flights in this morning using some old Zippy 5000 30Cs, they fit just fine. I went pretty easy on them per the instructions regarding "breaking in" the main gear. I also have a couple of old Turnigy 5000 40Cs (which are HUGE) and they fit cleanly as well.
