Default Main shaft shim oil

Every few flights i notice a black oil between mainshaft shim and bearing. Any idea where this come from?

You must oil your pitch slider, right? Isn't it likely that some of this oil migrates downward?

Pitch slider is on the tail. This would be from the swash ball.

Agreed its from the swash ball. I have had the same thing for years.. using a good quality lube will help but its always there. I use it as a sign that parts are lubed properly I wipe it off after a day of flying and relube before putting her up. Nothing to be concerned with.

OK the BIG pitch slider. I guess they DO call it the swash in some countries.

So, my point was that I put oil on the main shaft every time I fly, so I would have no idea if the oil that the OP describes was coming from somewhere else. I have it on mine, but I assume that it comes from the swash. Doesn't everyone oil their main?

I dont oil that much but I dont see that as a good thing ive been trying to get better with my oiling latley.

That oil you are concerned about is coming from the bearing that it is riding on. No real concern, just add a drop of oil every so often, to keep that bearing lubricated. The normal rotation and pressures of that bearing causes the oil in the grease to liquefy and the rotation moves the oil out of the bearing. It is all normal, just keep it lubed.

Hey guys, just finished my build not long ago and I'm wondering based on the comments above,that my main shaft should be oiled or greased ?
If so,how often ?

In general, the shaft does not need oil. I like to put a little around the ball in the swash plate (you can do this also by putting a little on the main shaft and moving the swach to its extents) and some on the swash as well. Put a little oil on the bearings as well. I do mine as needed or after a thorough cleaning. I like triflow, but some people use white lithium greas because it's thicker and won't "sling" off.

Depends what you mean by need. My experience is that it works better if you do. I oil the tail slider and the swash (only a drop or two) every flying day. Keeps things buttery smooth...

Any moving part that it touches, yes... Not really needed though in between bearing blocks.
