Talking Just an observation and a comment........

I was just out in my garage, cleaning up a few things. As I walked back into the house, I thought back to when I first got my mCPX and the only place I would fly it was the garage. Afraid of the wind and that dreaded IU! Crash into the riding mower, crash into the garage door, crash into most things in there. Sometimes, so pissed off, I thought about finding another hobby but I finally got it. Lot's of time and a few replacement parts but alot of learning and help from guys on this forum!

Now, I could not even imagine flying it in there. Brushless conversion, more experience, the joys of altitude and the great outdoors, bigger helis. It's cool to think where I started and where I am now. I'm nowhere close to a good pilot but it's awesome to see where I started and where I am now.

Just a stupid thread and reassurance to those just learning! You will get it.

Nothing stupid about looking back.

I still look in my back yard where there should be a 30 foot tree by now.
Back 15 years ago when I first got into the hobby and after I upgraded from a Concept 30 to my Shuttle ZXX, I took it to my backyard after the build. At this point I could tail in hover pretty well. So I spooled it up, had a friend and wife watching, and started to hover around.

Had two problems during this flight. Now we had just moved into this house and had planted some very small trees around the backyard. Looking back this was a mistake, but never thought about helis as I was planting the trees.

Well the first problem was I took it up too high and totally lost sight of it as it went on the other side of my house. It was probably up 300-400 feet. I could hear it but not see it, the wife was freaking out and my friend was doing his best to keep here under control. It was out of sight for at least 30 sec or more, but I finally saw it. Took awhile to get it back because all I could really do was tail in. But it made it back in one piece. I should have stopped with that flight.........being me I fueled it up and went again. But this time I kept it close to the ground hovering around my backyard. Well you probably guessed by now, I mowed down one of the trees I had planted in the yard. Took it off clean about 15 inches from the ground. Heli did ok, bent main and broken blades as I recall.

I still look at that spot when I'm flying my mCPX in the yard......and it still makes me smile a little.

Yeah, sometimes when we look back at things we did, we would say "wow, that's quite something". My 1st RC heli was a ESky Honey Bee (1st ever generation) back in 2005. I practiced hovering in the different orientations and then some tight circling all inside my bedroom over my queen-size bed. That is a 370-sized bird! Needless to say my headboard has all the scars to prove it.

I still practice/test my mCPx over my queen-size bed these days, but I keep thinking "how did I do that with a 370-sized bird?"

I remember years back taking the motorcycle license tests, I had to do a slow u-turn within 1.5 parking spot width and had to do slow slalom with 1.5 parking spot spacing without having feet off the pegs at any moment. After years of motorcycling, I've never ever needed those skills in the real world. Whenever I look back, I always think "who in the real world need those skills?"

I wish the MCPX was available when I first started. I'd probably be a professional by now.
