Smile tarot 450mx vs align 450mx

HI

I'm turning my helicopter to 6s. I'm looking for a powerful and efficient motor.

the only difference is that the tarot is 8 poles and align is 6 ....

could say that the tarot is more powerful?

I have the Tarot 1700Kv...did not try the align, but for what I know they perform the same.
Very happy with mine.

if your going 6s get the tarot 1860kv motor
the extra 160kv makes pinion setup a little easier

With a 1700kv motor you can govern up to 3200 rpm with a 15t straight or 12t helical (13t helical is also available). So unless you need 3500+ head speed, the 1700kv should work fine. I do think the 8 pole design is more suited for 1700kv use.

One thing that may influence your decision is that the align pro motor mount will not accept the tarot motor screws because they are too big to go through the slots. So you have to either buy the tarot pro v2 motor mount or modify yours (which is what I did) with an 1/8" drill bit.

With that said, I am very happy with my Tarot 450mx. It's very smooth and quiet, and is actually in balance. I use it with a 10t helical on my stretched 450 w/ 350s and govern 2800. I love it.

+1. I have 1700KV. Currently governed to 3000 RPM, 14/150T. As flynt723 said, I can likely get mine to govern to 3200 with 15T. But that's about the top of the pinion range for straight-cut gears. Just scaling things, the 1860KV is ~10% higher, so the same gearing would get me the ability to reach about 3500 RPM. 3400-3500 is not an unreasonable speed to want to try.

I see the higher KV as simply offering more flexibility and options. And using the same governed RPM, the higher-KV motor will be geared lower, potentially offering more torque (or it could come out as a wash; I don't know the subtleties of BL motors well enough to answer that).

I kind of wish I'd spent the extra $10 for the 1860KV in the first place. I know the dollar amounts are very low, but throwing out my $20 motor just to get some more RPM-potential with a $30 motor seems unnecessary for my skill level

You're right about higher kv with smaller pinion at same head speed making more torque available on the main shaft. But in this instance with the 1700kv (77g) being rated 650w and the 1860kv (68g) at 500w, the torque @ the main shaft is probably about equal (w/ 12t helical on the 1700kv and 11t helical on the 1860kv, both give 3200rpm @ 95%). That's if we can believe the watt ratings.

I keep forgetting I don't have a heli using 325s anymore, so you're right 3500 is not unreasonable. Another thing that really perked my helis up was to run pro 3d 335 mains, they will not interfere with the stock 450 pro tail. I think thunder power 325s are also 10mm longer than align 325s.

Yeah, I have a few sets of 335s waiting in the wings. I haven't tried them yet, but I'm hoping they'll be a nice change. I haven't bought any more 325s until I see how I like the 335; it doesn't sound like there's really a downside to them.

Stretching is also tempting, but I get the feeling that my 1200mAh packs might be a bit small for a stretch.

I wasn't aware of the power decrease to the 1860KV motor. Agreed, all things equal, I'll take more watts over more KV. I *can* gear higher (I could go helical, for instance). But if the higher KV motor will just bog with hard stuff, that doesn't help me. I've pulled a peak of about 650W so far, I think, on my NTM 1700KV, with 14°, 3000 RPM. I don't know what it, and the packs, will manage with a bigger load.

Laterly Tarot 450 1700kv have lots of failure..must be a production issue.. We have a tread with guys on rcgroup with same problems..I had 2 bot failed, one was not even used, the other lastet around 30 hours. So i will not buy again...just for the info.

I posted my feedback on banggood, but they removed it. I guess they do not like bad product reviews...

I'd get the Align 460mx. Hot damn, it lasts forever and makes great power. I have mine governed on the 12T pinion, 3300 rpm and have been pulling consistent peak outputs of 1019 watts!

Its a superb motor with a balance of flight time, reliability and performance.

Yet another anecdote. Bought junk tarot 1700kV, breach of insulation on continuity test with multimeter from shaft to motor wires. Never mounted it.
