Default REVIEW - RDLohr's FBL 0 pitch tool

OK the one and only, famous, awesome, super cool Helifreak user Rick Lohr and a review of his new Flybarless Zero Pitch Head Setup Tool.

FBL doesn't have a flybar so using a pitch guage can be a challenge especially to set 0 pitch and adjust your links. While this tool wont tell you total pitch it makes getting the grips perfect to 0 pitch so now it's easy to make up your links to the swash when stick is at center! No fuss.... no muss

So on with the review!

VIDEO -> Review RDLohr's Flybarless Zero Pitch Head Setup Tool (25 Megs)

Enjoy,
Bob

OMG, Capi's gonna have a field day with that one! LOL.

Thanks for the vid Bob. This is going to help clarify how these work for a lot of people! By the way, these tools have also been used very successfully with flybarred helis.

For those who don't know, Finless and John (Mercuriell) came up with the original need for a tool like this.

Rick

Lol, I was outside today tuning in a Robbe dinosaur, when it suddenly accrued to me... How does one use a pitch gauge with a fly bar to line up from,, As if by magic I have a little snoop on HF and low and behold its been covered.

Cheers guys.

A couple of things come to question. This tool assumes a few things.

  1. The head/grips are machined properly.
  2. The blades have no manufacturing root to airfoil departure.
It's a good tool to get you close though.

So far when comparing this method to a standard pitch gauge on flybarred machines it has been right on.

I would think if the grips were not machined correctly you would have other problems. As for blade root deviation do blade makers even do that anymore? At least for FBL blades?

This looks like an awesome tool, but I had the same question regarding fit. For example, would it work w Mikado grips?

No. The universal tools are for heads with flat topped grips and heads. I have special tools for the Logo 400, 500 and 600. They actually really work well cause they take advantage of the ridges.

The 500 version works for the 400 as well, but not visa versa.

Would this zero pitch tool be any good with fly bar helicopters? surley it would help out on blade tracking too, one of the things with blade tracking is to have a good clean start (blades being setup right) I understand their are other variables to incorrect blade tracking.

Does the Rave 450 have a flat head and grips? If it does, my Universal 250-450 Zero Pitch Tool should work. If it is not flat, I don't have a Rave 450 specific tool, sorry.

Looks like with a few washers it would work fine.
