Bob,

I am going to post this here, and on my original thread in order to make sure that you see it.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have watched all three videos several times and am now able to charge my battery! I doubt that I would have been in any way successful without your help!

Thank you again!

Something wierd. I noticed it in the video and mine does it also.

The beep and display change from constant current to constant voltage charge modes happens at 12.30 volts for a 3S pack, instead of 12.6.

But the charger works properly.

Here's what I mean. I put a 2150 3S pack on the charger, set the charge rate at 2.00 amps. It held 2.00 amps (actualy boucned between 1.99 and 2.00) in constant current mode. At 12.30 volts, it beeped and the display changed to constant voltage, BUT the charger continued to charge at 2.00 amps with increaing voltage until it hit 12.60 volts, then the voltage remained constant and teh amps dropped.

Yep... just the way it works I guess.

I wonder if you change to fast charge or 95% mode if it would change. I will have to try that one day myself.

BTW in your video you do say that the beep and switchover occurs at 12.6 volts, but you can clearly see that yours does it at 12.3 volts.

BTW how do you charge at 3C? Just set the higher amperage?

Yes. So lets say you have a 2200 pack.
2.2 amps is 1C, 4.4 is 2C, 6.6 is 3C.

Nice Video. Very informative. This explains why a LiPO charger costs so much. There is a lot of technology involved. I am thinking about getting into LiPo's as well but kinda scared of what happens when you don't handle a Lipo properly. (I've seen the videos) After watching the videos, I think I am gonna get this charger and balancer and give LiPos a try. The only problem is I need to save for it first.

You should always be careful with lipo's, but if you do that and keep the rules in mind, there is really nothing to worry about. Especially with this new generation of chargers with all the necessary safety procedures incorporated.
All the bad things you read and hear about lipo's are incidents usually originating from carelessness.

Just curious...

How do you guys charge your lipo's?
I always keep to the specs of the lipo (1C) so that takes a freaking hour. I know i can put in higher amps. But that will reduce the lifetime of the lipo.
But since i dont fly at a club i don't have an idea what most flyers do in the field. Stay at the 1C or spice the current a bit up to reduce time?
And are there lipo's out there that can charge more quickly whithout loosing too much capacity after some time?

Merry Xmas,
Maurice

p.s. your video sucks Bob......it makes me think of reasons to tell my wife that i really need that stuff

OK, thanks, does it do anything special? I do notice the manual says something about 3C charging is Full Charge goes to 97% and Fast Charge to 95%, rather than the 100% and 97% respectively in 1C charging.

And isn't there something about it making sure that the pack can be safely charged at 3C? As in the balancer talking to the charger? I thought i heard that somewhere.

I typically charge mine at 1C because I would rather take time and save the packs.

BTW hwo do you like your Compy? I am loking at one to replace my Blade before I put too much more money into it.

Bob:

Thanks so much for making these videos. Your vids. were the difference between success and failure with my 450 and now with the 600 and the TP charger, your vids are again indispensable.

Thank you for taking the time to do these. It has made all the difference for me to be able to understand and enjoy this hobby.

I also charge at 1C, so far my prolite 2100 doesnt show any signs of reduced capacity. But i was wondering... you use a lipo for a certain time till the remaining capacity is not acceptable right? so lets say a year when doing the 1C charging. If charging with 2C the battery will lasts 10 or 11 months so 1 or 2 months shorter lifetime...heck i would go for that lol.
So i'm looking for that kind of answer. Maybe someone has experience with this?
(My feeling says that it would reduce lifetime by half, but i'm looking for a pratical example)

@pinecone,
The compy is flying allright. Dont expect it to be a 3d monster. It needs tweaks as well. I use a cnc head and 3d landing gear. its a light heli (compared to the hdx300 anyway)

Bob,
Thanks for the great videos. Being a newbie and getting a TP-1010C without a manual your video helped me understand all the displays of the charger and the balancer.
