Not painted, it's MonoKote trim sheet from the LHS. I just do it because my eyes are getting old and can use all the help i can give them.. Probably didn't need it though,
this paint scheme on the canopy shows up great.. The 766 has awesome presence in the air.

Finally got in a solid day of flying. The Pyro 750 actually does really well, it's keeping up nicely. I'm bolting up an Xnova 4535 now to compare. The 750 is holding headspeed pretty well, and it's not pegging PWM excessively, even when it's cranked up to 80% in the tx.

Both of mine are in the car now. I will weigh them with and without batteries tomorrow at work. One is 12 cellthe other is 14 cell other than that they are identical.

13.5 lb with the Xnova, Kosmik, and 14s 4400s.
I just stuck a Scorpion Commander V 160 in to play with and need to weigh it again.

Massively undersized.
The pyro 800's are even weaksauce on 766mm blades.
A 4530 is decent.
A 5035 is best, especially for aggressive low headspeed flying.

It all comes down to setup and flying style. Yes, the torque of a bigger motor will shine if you're flying at low PWM and digging into the collective. However, smaller motors will fly aggressive low head speed just fine and make plenty of power if you choose the proper kv and gear ratio that allows the motor to run at an efficient PWM rate to achieve your chosen headspeed. They also do quite well at low PWM, you just need a little more collective management. You don't have to run a 50 series motor in this model to make it fly well with 766 blades. In fact all of Matt's demo flights at IRCHA and lots of testing was done on 12s with a 4525 Scorpion. The Pyro 750 on 14s did quite well in my machine, not grossly underpowered at all. I'm running a 4535 Xnova right now - yes it has more power - but the heli did not feel sluggish or weak with the 750 either.

I was playing with a logo 700xx, raptor e820 and a goblin 770 for the last few years, dabbling in the larger than 710mm blade sizes. Focused mainly between 750mm and 780mm.
Tested a ton of 14s power systems.
The pyro 800-48 and 800-40, were good on 14s with 710mm blades but as soon as you went larger, the amp draw peaks went through the roof, disproportionately so, with mediocre in flight performance. Just too small of a stator.
A 4530-450 pulls a bit more average current, but much lower spikes, and much improved in flight performance. The 5035-380 is another, larger, step in that direction.
So the larger, more powerful motor can actually give more flight time if you fly aggressively. And much tighter governing, of course.

Oh for sure you can cruise around with about any size motor, but it's hardly optimal.
The 750 can be geared to run dedicated low headspeed and perform well enough if you mind the collective, but it can't run both high and low headspeed in the same flight and perform well at both. And it doesn't perform exceedingly well at either high or low headspeed even with optimized gearing. I know because I have one... it's a 710mm blade max, and actually being pushed quite hard there for aggressive flying.

What you're doing is relying on the disk loading and energy to achieve a satisfactory level of performance for you. And that's cool.
But I assure you, it can be so much better with a 50mm sized motor, crisp 3d at low rpm with zero collective management, lower amp draw, and super tight governing at high rpm that gives you that 700 sized heli feel, along with the 750/800 presence.

Of course one must always balance the weight of the motor against gains, and that has a lot to do with personal preference and airframe weight. I understand that since the 766 is just being released, and if anyone were to be an armchair critic, it will concern the weight. So it does make perfect sense to me that the lightest possible motor will be used by most of the early demo and team units...
Martinshelis and Freeskiken like this.
