Default Money no object power system

My 700N is currently running an OS .91HZ-R 3DS with a Hatori pipe. Given that I come from the electric world with 12s power systems, I'm looking for more kick... but aren't we all in that quest for gobs of power?

So, if money is no object, would you guys just install the YS120SR in your 700? Is that the current king of the hill? What pipe with that? Or the OS 105?

Finally, I'm just under 2 full turns on the high needle and almost a full turn on the middle needle. The idle mixture needle is right in the middle. Sound about right? Its making good smoke. Running an OS bubbleless clunk AND a QuickUK header tank. Thanks!

I went through 2 ys120 and blew both of them in the process of tuning, Just switched to an OS 105 and will see how it will turn out. I would stay away from ys120.

Wow! That sucks! My 700N is running well and I think its got good power, but I don't know for sure. Tuning these things is an art, and I'm a nitro noob.... is it too rich? too lean? is the midrange right? What about the idle mixture?

I'll get there... I'm reading all I can on this stuff.

I have that same 91 motor you have. Im right at 1.1 on the high and .6 on mid. I could go leaner but choose not to. I also havd both 120 and 105. 105 is overall better imo. Easier to tune and still gives tons of power on 15 and 30%. The ys120 has more power available than 105, it's just harder to find!

Thanks for this info! From your settings, it looks like I'm running quite rich on mine then. After a full 7min flight, my main tank has less than 1/4" of fuel left and the temp on the motor is right around 180deg. I think my needle settings are a bit too conservative, but everyone at the field keeps telling me that its "making good smoke"...whatever that means! All I know is that I can still bog it during continuous tic tocs or high speed runs.

Go with the YS 91SR 3DS or OS 105..IMO,the power between the YS 91SR 3DS,YS 120SR and OS 105 isn't that far off but YS went down hill when they came out with the YS 120SR..Out of maybe 15 different helis ive seen and flown, only 3 ran good and the rest were garbage.Lots of people sale the YS 120SR after trying it and its to the point now where they can't give them away in the sale section.
The YS 91SR 3DS is a freak for a 91 size motor and pretty much unbogable with the Hatori pipe.I had the OS 91HZ-R before putting the YS 91SR 3DS in and the power is night and day.

Just be careful! I'm at 400 above sea level at 90 degrees F. I get darn near 10 minutes of flight time with my setup at 1950 rpm. Not sure of temp but backplate is warm, not super hot.

My YS 1.20 is running so well, I gave away all my .91 Hzrs. I'll never go back to any .91. I would like to try the 1.05 HZr but wish YS would come out with a 1.50.

I agree the 1.20 is not easy to tune but once you figure it out, it's a smooth running powerhouse.

Its not a tunning issue and its more miss than hits with them..Out of 4 YS 120SR a buddy bought,3 were junk right out of the box and the other crapped out after a few gallons..2 wouldn't run at all,1 started but stayed lean no matter what we did and 1 ran good for a few gallons then went to chit..Another buddy had the same issues along with many others at the field and online..You can read the engine section here, others sites and see its not a tunning issue..YS went down hill big time with this engine..Another really good buddy was sponsored by YS,he quit and switched to OS because he also had noting but issues with the YS 120SR and YS 60SR...
Don't take my post the wrong way because I LOVE YS and just bought a Y 56SR for my new 600N but I would never but the YS 120SR and YS 60SR..
If you got a good one thats awesome because alot have but MANY have nothing but issues with them..

I have a YS 120 and have had no issues with it at all. I've helped tune two others that are running great and know of two more that run well. This engine definitely tunes a little differently from say a .91 HZR but it's not hard to get done.

Matt's advice helped my ys120 run much better!
