Default Helijive mounting, tape or paste

Hi guys the helijive uses the esc plate if you havn;t already glued the heat sink on it
I wanted to get heat transfer tape, but you can only seem to buy it in a roll, and it costs around 250 bucks in new zealand.

I don't want to use paste incase the mounting plate gets damaged in a crash.

Is anyone just cable tying it to the mounting plate with out any issues?

Thanks

Try use 3M 8815 Thermally Conductive Adhesive transfer tape. It is not not permanent and it can be removed without damaging the ESC.

I just used a zip tie and got it to stay flat on the heat sink on the heli. I do not use any tape or adhesive. The temp of the heat sink and esc are always the same when I come down. The heat transfer is excellent! The HeliJive is never more than luke warm when I come down. I am running the head speed at 2150 using a 20 tooth pinion and 70 percent on govenor mode on the esc.

You can get heat transfer paste from any electronics shop which is non-adhesive but as Docdocphil says probably not much different to just gently zip-tie the HS over the ESC

Are you sure this tape works? My friend used it to mount a PowerJive 120HV in his Goblin. He has the KDE 700XF 495KV motor and 24T pinion. At the time he was flying in Idle1 at 70% throttle. He calibrated his Jive the MrMel way. For the first few flights we felt the temperature of the plate and it was just luke warm, but yesterday his PowerJive went poof and his Goblin went down. The LiPo caught fire after his Goblin hit the ground and it doesn't look pretty any more.

I used this .. ebay Item number: 390011991099

It seems to work very well. It is very very thin, but when it sticks you can't easily remove the esc. I have the Helijive cable tied , but I am sure it would work fine with only the tape.

Make sure you also velcro strap it as well, or it can separate the built in heatsink to the goblins heatsink and cause this

Yes thats exactly what happened to my friend Sam's Goblin at the Charmouth funfly yesterday. When he removed the ESC, the Jive's plate came away still stuck to the Goblin's ESC mount. We never thought about it coming away in flight. 2 of the FETS are burned under the plate. Are you 100% sure the plate came away before the crash?

I was going to ask if that's Sam's Goblin. I recognized the KDE motor. To be honest though I'm not sure the plate did come off in flight. I'm not sure who actually removed the ESC after.

If Sam had not strapped it down then there is a good chance that it separated and caused it to over heat as in effect there was no heatsink what so ever, causing a shutdown.

Turns out he did strap it down with cable ties. He was the one who removed it. The Jive's internal plate pulled out because it was stuck strong to the Goblin's mounting plate.

The 3M Thermal Tape is not that strong. Not even 1/10 of the force to remove as the 3M Gray tape which is extremely strong

I simply zip tie mine down to the ESC tray. It doesn't move at all and the heat gets dissipated just fine. I have a Heli Jive 120.

i took the tape of a hobbywing 120 under the heatsink, and used it between the goblin plate and helijive and a big fuel tube with a cable tie going through to strap it down,

OK so the Jive was strapped down and it didn't come away in flight. It seems more like the PowerJive 120HV is not upto the job with the KDE 700XF 495 and Sam's style of flying. I'm going to recommend he get the Mikado YGE 160HV that comes with the Logo XXtreme 800.

Hey Maurice, that's not good news. Is it just the Mikado edition or the standard YGE 160HV too?
