maiden so so
Well I managed to get somewhat of a maiden today.
Using the scorpion esc 130 amp with sbec hooked up to a vbar full-size. I could not get the rpm to hold in note of the switch positions. The hard speed seemed to pulsate. Vary between high and low . Has any body experienced this problem before? If so what have I done wrong. Kindly let me know please Thanks D |

Is the ESC in external governor mode? Did you watch MrMels video on the Scorp V with vBar?

Hi,
I sure did look at the video. Will look it over again. I'm using the vbar gov. Congrats on your maiden. What gear ratio did you use for the vbar and are you using the original pinion and pulley? Let me know please Thanks D |

Gear ratio is 204/22T. With a 4525, 10 poles div by 2, so 5 in the sensor config.

Well I changed the motor timing on the esc from auto to 5 and it fried the motor.
I'll be getting rid of that esc and using what I've been accustomed to, the kontronics. I will ask scorpion for a refund. Hopefully I will succeed as it it is a 350 buck esc. Let you know how the power jive and the 750-52 B works out Thanks D |

D, I sorry to hear about that man, fried a motor...that is rough, I hope this build turns out well for you , these hiccups I am sure have you frustrated but keep at it , you will get a successful maiden and it would be worth it.

Thanks Paul!
Scorpion wants me to send the motor and esc up to them. I'll do that and hope for the best Thanks D |

Sounds like maybe the motor was bad from the start and just finally killed the the ESC. Was it the hand wound 4525?
I flew my 4525 + Scorp V combo yesterday (replacing a Castle) for the first time and was very impressed. Ended up with a gain of 40, and the Heli felt way more powerful. I also seemed to gain 30 seconds. So a more powerful and efficient setup by far. Win win! Hope they get you sorted out. Worth a 2nd try IMO. |

Interesting, I too am using a 4525-520le in my Goblin, with a CommanderV, and the motor gets very hot! Timing ismset to 5, like yours was. I bought an IR temp meter, so I can monitor the motors temp after a few flying sessions. Im worried I might burn mine up too!

My 4525 is hot too. But can hold a finger on it. Seems normal to me.

Mine is about 160 degrees Fahrenheit when I check it immediately after a 6 minute mild 3D flight. Seems hotter than any other motor I have.

Finally, she's sweet!
I switched out the esc and the motor. now running a kontronics 120 hv and a kontronics 700-52 b. esc at 50 % in stunt one for 2040 rpm and 65% 2205 in 2. The esc and battery temps are good. The motor on the other hand is exceedingly hot. I'm wondering if I should be looking at a lower kv motor. Advice please thanks d Last edited by deepak; 03-30-2012 at 09:50 PM.. |

NO. You should NOT be looking at a lower kv motor. I have the same kv as you do. What motor pulley are you running? Also, these high end super powerful motors just get hot. You need to use a temp gun and check it right after a flight. I'm about 160 degrees, which is too hot to keep a hand on for more than 1/2 a second. But this is normal. If you are running the stock 22 tooth motor pulley, I would recommend you step down to the 21 tooth like I did, it made a big difference in torque, punch, and temp (about 20 degrees). 21 tooth is the sweet spot for a 520 kv motor.

finally sweet
Yo Justin
thanks for the heads up on that. I am running the original pinion Appreciate it very much Well take the temp gun to the field tomorrow and see how hot it really is Thanks D Ps Innovative said it was cold soldering that caused the esc to fail. no warranty for that Last edited by deepak; 03-30-2012 at 09:48 PM.. XX tooth pulley means nothing without specifying the ESC/Gov
For example if Jive Mode 4 is standard as Mr Mel's calc gives a baseline Castle +1 tooth VBar Gov + 1 tooth YGE close to Jive, sometimes +1 tooth
