I was just wondering I have always got e helis but was looking at nitros is it worth a try or should I just stick with e helis and what's a good 50 class

I was thinking the outrage 50 n2 but don't really no much about nitro I have had like 5 nitro trucks a d stuff

You'll never really know until you try. Dealing with nitro engines is one of those things that you either have a knack for or you don't; I didn't, which is why I abandoned it.

Raptors can be found for a great price in the classifieds. If you are unsure about nitro I can't say I would recommend going "all out" to start.

I love my nitro, but don't fly it that much. The Hirobo sdx is a nice 50 sized Heli that is not too expensive. Parts are not hard to find like for a sceadu, and it is very solid and tunable.

I was on this debate 2 months ago. I decide to go for it and got a 700 nitro used.

I am really enjoying the whole nitro experience. Let's just hope it will last.

If I had listened to most of my friends (that used to fly nitros) I would not have gotten one. But I decided that I wanted to experience it and draw my own conclusion and form my own opinion.

Seriously,you have to try it yourself for an extended amount of time to know if it's for you or not.

Most of the naysayers have never even seen a nitro heli.

Go for it.....The Outrage is a nice one by the way and I love my Trex 700.

I have a TREX 600N that I picked up used. I've flown the OS50 and TT56 engines and while the TT56 puts out more power I seem to be wanting more and more power for learning 3D.

I like the smoke, I like the screaming sound, and I like being able to fuel up and go fly again w/o even popping the canopy.

Does it have as much power as a 12S 600e? I don't think so.

Is it more fun to fly than an e-heli? I think so.

I'd say it depends on what type of pilot you are, skill level, and what you want to do with the model. If you are a sport pilot not wanting to spend huge bucks on something you may or may not keep then consider a Pantera or Raptor in the 50 size. New or used they give a good bang for the buck and are more survivable (imho) in mishaps. I personally fly the Pantera for just that reason....economy. I also fly a Trex 500 and an MCPX but the Pantera is my favorite due to long flight times and price of repair parts.

i have 3 of each. lately i,m flying the nitro's more. if you don't have ac at the field, charging lots of packs CAN be an issue, as well as taking the canopy on and off and the shorter flight times, BUT NO MESS! the nitro's don't need battery changes every flight and fly 2x as long per flight, but they are messy and need more field support equiptment.as i said, lately im more enjoying the nitro's. but, that could change tomorrow.lastly, if you are going to fly nitro's, learn autos, you'll use them

I mentioned this before, that eflyers seems to outnumber the nitro ones but I don't think it's the case. I am a nitro fan, amongst other things I like the longer flight times but there is something "real" about an engine driven heli which I can't get out of my blood. It surprises me how seemingly so few are attracted to the thrill of nitro but as has been said, if you don't try it you'll never know one way or the other. The problem is that you do need some amount of support kit which bumps up the cost on top of the fuel so an inexpensive bird which is cheap to repair like the Rappy 30 is a good bet. In nitro it's the heli I favour .

I would say E flyers do outnumber theNitro guys due to all the small helis available these days and the cost of li-po's.

Personally I like Nitro and have enjoyed them for years, my nicest heli is a Nitro. It is an Aurora. If you don;t have anyone who flys Nitro to mentor you and all you have flown is E and no other hobby nitro experience like cars or planes, you probably should look for someone experienced in nitro before you take the plunge and go fly with them a few times. It also might be good to know if you can get reasonably priced nitro fuel near you. I go to IRCHA a lot and always bring back bargain priced cool power that I keep in a dark climate controlled closet and just re-up each year. Just some things to consider. To me Nitro is a lot of fun and a completely different experience than E, but when you are just beginning with it you would do well with a mentor.

Yes that's true - I was thinking more of the bigger sizes as you would see in IC engines.

If you are well experienced in electric I think it is possible to cope with moving to an IC engine. I started with glowers but I stalled for about a year so got an experienced flyer to move me on. It wasn't the engine that held me back, it was the actual heli flying.

+1 This is definitely true. A friend of mine didn't and did an impromptu blade stop auto with his 'new' raptor 50 when he first got it because he didn't know how to auto. It did an impressive bounce when it hit the deck and only broke the canopy and some links in the head. Pretty damn strong to boot.
