Default color schemes?

I just bought the G3 sim. and was wondering if you can create your own color schemes? If so, how?

Yes. Click Aircraft | Save Color Scheme As... and provide a name. That will make a .tga in the ColorSchemes directory of your RealFlight installation.

Close the simulator, then use a graphic editor like PhotoShop, PaintShop Pro or Gimp to edit the image.

Next time you start the simulator, you should be able to choose the new color scheme from the Aircraft menu or the Aircraft Selection dialog.

Will it break anything if I don't "draw within the lines?" I just used a broad brush and painted over the other image. Some (errr.. all) of my lines were rough and not always within the lines of the old pattern.

No. You can do whatever you want with the image. Make it solid pink if that is the look you are going for.

I just tried it with G3 and it worked. I found the saved file here:
\Program Files\RealFlightG3\ColorSchemes

It's cool to paint the sim model similar to the real thing. Thanks for the instructions.

I'd be willing to bet that the tga file is indeed being created in the color schemes directory.

Your graphic editor needs to be able to open and edit tga files. If you are trying to browse for the file from the open dialog of your editing program, it may filter out file types that it doesn't support so that you won't see them.

Not quite sure I understand exactly what you're asking Jack... I think that you are saying that you want to use a picture of a real heli as a color scheme.

If you had a picture of a real heli, you'd need to chop it up and cover over the matching parts in the tga image. It would be difficult and the results would probably not be very good. It would actually be easier to just edit the exported color scheme to make it look like you wanted.
