http://www.bladehelis.com/ProdInfo/F...bration_EN.pdf Looking at it explains why the instructions here are not the same as the instructions mentioned in the RCGroups thread: *the instructions here resemble the agility mode calibration instructions from Blade. *the instructions mentioned in the RCGroups thread resemble the stability mode calibration instructions from Blade. |

in the instruction for calibration for stability mode says to hold camera triger switch for 5 seconds.
does this mean we have to mount the camera s well? |

No you do not have to have the camera on the quad to do the calibration.when the 180 is in "safe" calibration it is looking at the camera channel to know when to start recording data. I should also add that this should be done out of ground effect and in little to no wind. No wind "inside" would be best.
The calibrations will not remove "all" drift some trim may still be necessary. But should help in occasions where with the RTF you have run out of trim or when the is an extreme difference in trim between flight modes. sean |

Question:
Ok. I have my 180QX HD bound to the stock tx and have it calibrated with that tx. If I rebind it to my DX6i, do I need to recalibrate it to the DX6i or is it good to go?

i try to cslibrate in stability mode with my dx7se. the camera toggle switch is the flight mode switch. however when i move flight mode switch to position 1 for 5 seconds and then back to 0 and then land the 180qx , the blue light is still on and nothing seems to happen..

If it solid blue it is calibrated. You have to unhook the battery and shut off the DX7s and then turn everything on again and you should be good to go.

but the mannual says :
Release the camera trigger and land the quadcopter. Upon landing, the LEDs should fl ash red then blue. When the LEDs repeat with one blink per color, the calibration is complete mine is solid blue... |

Adding the camera for me, did not change how it flies, I think its stable either way, however the first time I try some rolls and flips Ill do it with out the camera first

(radio = DX8)
Bought a 180QX new from the local hobby shop n' it had this mean right/forward drift.. it was bad. Was impossible to fly. Found the calibration video on UToob.. didn't work. After the double blue/red flash => quick alternating blue/red (as if it had lost connection with the DX8. Couldn't get it to go solid blue at all. Found this thread and got the .pdf instructions from Blade.. still no worky in "stability mode/low angle". I believe the calibration was successful in the other two modes.. which I don't intend to use.. this is stricly a video capture effort. Troubleshooting phone session with HH, still couldn't get the LEDs to the solid blue state and beyond.. still went straight to quick blue/red/blue/red. still no 180QX love. So exchanged it for a new one and Aaahhh.. all is better. No drift problems.. Trimmed it out.. works great. Nice to fly. HOWEVER, just cuz - decided to try an ddo the calibration anyway. Still can't complete the cal. process. After the double blue/red flash.. this new one goes to solid red.. Seems like there still may be some issues with the cal. process as written. Maybe just a DX8 thing.. Still flying real nice though, so happy to be moving on. |

yeah the calibration is pretty strange, even for me with the Dx7 i never had the solid light ...maybe it works only with their tx ?

I have a nassssty left drift today after a pretty good thump onto the ground. Structurally its fine....
Calibrated in full agility- red/blue Calibrated in full stable- red blue calibrated in medium agility- solid red But it flies great with just a bit of trim. |

Issues trying to calibrate for me too...
I followed the stability mode calibration instructions Blade has posted on their own website to the letter: http://www.bladehelis.com/ProdInfo/F...bration_EN.pdf (Except for step 13, as I don't think the RTF radio allows the trims to center afterwards.) After landing, the LEDs flash red and blue alternately as expected. I then disconnect the battery and switch off the radio. Next time I turn on the radio and connect the battery in stability mode, the trim is just off as much as it was prior to the calibration. Interestingly, when I put the 180QX back into calibration mode, it seems to remember the previous calibration settings, and is absolutely stable whilst in calibration mode. Any ideas? |

Call HH. They will walk you thought the calibration and if your equipment is defective will assist you in the repair or replacement.

A couple questions
I have calibrated and still have a right back drift which I trimmed out with the switches on the front og DX8. 15 clicks left 10 forward for solid hover. I try doing the hold the trainer/bind button to finalize calibration with no affect, the lights just keep flashing back and forth.
When I go in to adjust the trim in the tx all surfaces show 5 trim. Why? and would that not just cancel it's self out? 5 R and 5 L = 0 right?

Fear of flying!!!!
Apologies from an oldie in years but very much a newbie in experience. I think I might be caught in a catch 22 situation. I have just treated myself to an early retirement present of a 180 QX and Spektrum DX6. On starting up 3 rotors spin up on throttle setting 6 but to get the fourth to start (rear left standing behind the quad) the throttle setting has to be around 40. On lift off, there is a fairly fast drift to the left which induces a bit of pilot panic and immediate shutdown. I figure that a bit of trim is required and have consulted the HH web site for details which are part listed below. In order to get this trimming procedure to work I need to be able to achieve steps 8, 9 and 10. For someone who has never flown before, how much of a challenge will this be and how big a space do I need to risk it. Any advice gratefully accepted
Jim Stability Mode Calibration 1. Ensure all trims are centered. 2. Power on the transmitter and move the throttle stick to full throttle. 3. Ensure the transmitter is in Stability High or Low Angle Mode. 4. Hold full up elevator. 5. Connect the fully charged flight battery in the quadcopter. 6. Both LEDs will flash red twice, then blue twice for a few seconds. 7. When the LED turns solid blue, lower the throttle and return the elevator to center. 8. Raise the throttle to bring the quadcopter to a hover. 9. Use the trims on the transmitter to eliminate any drifting, allowing for a stable hover. 10. While in a stable hover, press and hold the camera trigger on the transmitter for 5 seconds. The quadcopter is now calibrating input from the sensors and transmitter. Full down elevator Full up elevator 11. Release the camera trigger and land the quadcopter. |
