10mm blade trim

Comes back to here. So now I have to try it out for myself. After the fire inspector leaves today that is.

I don't think shortening the blades creates any sort of fire hazard!...

My hotel has a inspection by the fire marshall is what I meant to say. After she leaves I'm gonna try out the blade trim.

try 7 mm first and see if you like the results then if you need more agility you can trim some more off but never go beyond 10 mm

Not having metric measuring devices around my shop I had to convert to the closest American measurement. 3/8ths which when translated is 9.5mm.
Measured both blades and trimmed them down. Took it outside and got airborne.
It flys a little differently but not a real dramatic change. Indoors is a different story. It takes a lot more throttle to get off the counter. But once in the air it's a lot more stable.
Still it does have a tendency to drift toward the glass doors coming in to the lobby. I would venture she wants to go outside and really strut her stuff.

The difference shows more in a light wind, you are able to fight the wind better because of the higher head speed and more responsive cyclic control.

Hey guys, I did the 10mm blade cut today and tried it out. I can't seem to keep the heli in the air and it does not want to climb. I get about 2 feet off the ground and thats it. Any help or watch settings are you guys using? I have the dx6i tx. Thanks.

Sounds like either a bad connection, or a bad motor or battery.

Every 120 I ever owned had 10mm cut off the blades, it does slightly reduce the amount of lift at a given rpm, but that's what raises the head speed, raising the head speed is what improves the stability and the cyclic response.

There should still be plenty of lift to hover and to climb.

Thanks for the quick reply. It could be the batteries. I'm gonna give them a good charge before some more flight time.

More than one of the many 120sr's that I have owned also had gear mesh issues, make sure there is a little bit of play between your pinion and main gear.

I had to open the motor mount screw holes in the frame to allow my motor to be moved back to get the mesh correct.

Maybe you have trimmed off just a smidgen more than 10mm. Really anything beyond 10 starts to have negative effect. If your battery is good and If you have another set trim them to be a little bit longer .

For me trimming only 7mm gives the desired effect of increased head speed while retaining more lift

Even with 11 or 12 mm trimmed off he should still have no issues hovering or climbing, he says he can only get a few feet off the ground.

It was the batteries. Charged them up fully and up she goes! I just got this 120 sr and I find it much easier to fly and control than my msrx. Having some fun.
