Default DJI 30amp ESC and AR8000 (Solved)

I'm trying to test my build and I assumed I could plug each ESC into the throttle channel one at a time to check motor rotation. When I do this the ESC just keeps beeping, I know the receiver is bound and working because a servo plugged into the throttle channel responds as expected but I can't get the motors to turn as expected.

Any suggestions?

Ultimately this is all going to a MultiWii board, I'm just trying to setup correct rotation before messing with the FC.

The DJI ESC is opto isolated, meaning it does not have a built in BEC. This is why it won't arm when plugged directly into your receiver. You will have to wire up an external BEC for this to work.

Already knew that and I am running an external 3amp SBEC.

I tried an AR600 DSMX and it works fine. It's either DSM2/2048/11ms or a bad AR8000. I'm wondering if there might be issues with DSM2 on the DX18.
