Default HP ESP120 power supply US wiring

This is a cross post from the electronics forum as it seems there's a lot more traffic here:

I just purchased a 4010 Duo on sale for Labor Day and also ordered an HP ESP120 monster power supply. Tutorials here on HF have been done in the UK, but here in the states I'm going to have to get clever. I've been researching and read many threads over in RCG, but it seems like the more research I do about US 240v power the more unnerving this project gets.

I am planning on using my dryer outlet in the garage to power this supply, it is the 3 prong NEMA 10-30 receptacle. I understand that in the US there is HOT, HOT and Neutral. What guys recommend over on RCG is to connect the Hot 1 to L, Hot 2 to N, and "ground" to ground (it's all been discussed, but never a post saying "it works!") In theory it seems that this may work, my worry is that the 3-prong US 240v receptacle does not have a true ground, it is a neutral. So by RCG logic I would be connecting Hot 1 to L, Hot 2 to N, and NEUTRAL to ground. Will this work as intended or am I in store for an explosion/electrocution when touching the chassis?

Photos for reference:

If you ps runs on 230 volts one hot or line wire goes to one of the power (load)wire to ps. The other hot or line wire goes to the power or load wire and the ground goes to a grains wire on a plug. Do not mistake a white wire for a nutrual wire in a 230v aplacation most resadential 230 wire ing will use the white wire for power!!!

What you don't have pluging you ps to a dryer outlet is a breaker to trip if you sort something. that breaker is set for your dryer can damage appaliances upswing less current (amperage) or catch on fire and burn your house down....

So IF you wire your ps to 230v

You need to have wire size no less than the amp ratting of ac side of the ps Bigger wire is ok...

And the proper size breaker to shut off the circuit in case of a fail RT.
Ie 20 amps Max draw would = 20amp breaker.... And so on I don't exceed more than

Wht do you want to run you is on 230v....
Normally is just a Europe thing.... Or big equipment using less enegery @same performance

I'm running in on 240 because it's such a big power supply. It's a 2900+ watt, 50v power supply for my new icharger 4010. I can supply full power to the icharger from one supply, not having to wire multiple supplies via series. Plus at $29, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the RC-specific stuff we pay for. Definitely won't be portable for the field though!

Since posting I've come across some success threads on RCG. I do indeed wire both hot legs to the L and N pins. Here's the original thread:

And here are some successful deployments in the U.S.:

And here's the AC side labeled for US use:

WOW, that is scary. I wouldn't want that hanging around.

Can you put a 20 amp circuit breaker inline?

You say the 4010 can use the power, but do you really need that much? I find a much more portable/usable 1500w to be more then enough. I guess if you're parallel charging a bunch of big 6s they add up... but I don't normally do that.

A few weeks into it and it's working flawlessly! Yes I do use all the power since I'm para-charging six 5000mah batteries on one side and six 2600-3300 mah on the other.

Wires to the charger barely get above ambient temp.
