Synergy E5s on 8s Review
Well, today I tried out my E5s on 8s. I picked up a 800kvm motor and swapped out some 4500 6s packs (was on 12s) and am now running 4000 4s packs. Between the motor and packs I shed about a 1 1/4 lbs.
First impressions, well I lost a bit of flight time, not sure how much quite yet, I didn't get enough flights in and it was REALLY windy today. I did notice that my tick tocks are much nicer and I don't give nearly as much collective input. If I decide to stick with this setup I will probably purchase a more higher end motor, I am currently running a Turnigy motor. I was unsure if I should purchase smaller lighter packs (would be pretty expensive or try 8s since I have 6 4s 4000 mah packs. I figured I would try the experience with 8s with a cheaper motor ($50) and if I liked it then I might consider throwing down $200 on a higher end Scorpion, KDE, or Xnova. Hopefully I can get some more flights in next week and add some additional thoughts. So far I like it. I plan on using those 4500 6s packs in my E7 that I am about finished with.

What size main blades are you running and at what head speed?
I got mine together and a few flights just before I went on vacation. Been so long I don't remember any numbers but I think I was getting 5 minute flights, was messing around 2000-2200 head speed. My packs were coming down warmer than I liked though, not sure why. How warm were you packs? I was using Pulse Ultra 3700s, 4 cell, 2 packs in series. |

I am running 606 mains 106 tail.
Normal 1800 Idle Up 1 2100 Idle up 2 2250 Next time I will probably switch out Idle up 1 to 2025 and idleup 2 to 2100. It felt a lot lighter so I probably won't need the head speed. I didn't have any really aggressive flights so they didn't come down warm. Granted it was a bit warm out today so I wouldn't notice them being warm as much.

Finally got my E5s on 8 cell out yesterday.......been a long 5 weeks stretch with no flying. A few changes I made, I increased my timer to 6 minutes, just as a safety as I have a mAh counter installed, and well I want to do more verifying before I completely ditch the timer. I lowered all my head speeds, now at 1400, 1700, 2050. I really like the sound of 1400. I did a few flights at 2050 and when my mAh counter went off, I was right around 5:30 flying time, and that's sport flying. I did get a flight at 1700 only, and was about 6:20. I was pretty happy with it, but I need to get it all setup, as I haven't done anything since I changed the motor out to a 890kv, and I never dialed things in after I stretched it.
I will say, messing around at 1700 almost makes me want to lower things more and make it a low headspeed machine. I've even had thoughts of E5ss and swinging some 696s. Oh the possibilities. Colemn, what are you getting for flight times on yours? Just curious to compare. |

My timer is currently set to 4:30. I usually fly to 5:30 but if I am really banging the sticks then I usually come down between 4:30 and 5:00.

I'll be the first to let you know I have a E58S and it flys amazing my setup is Scorpion 890Kv motor, Talon 120HV, CGY 750 FBL, BLS-272HVx3 and BLS-276-tail, using 8.0V from the talon's BEC on the servos, speed up tail with a 54t spur gear and a 12t spur auto rotation combo. using 606 mains and 96 tails powered by a Zippy 8S pack 4500 35C. The setup is very efficient and I get 4 mins of flight time.

What made it more efficient compared to a 12s 3300mah setup which would have the equivalent total power from the Lipo just different in terms of the motor Kv.
Is it cheaper? You'd have an odd battery config compared to the standard 12s. Where would be the gain on this one? Quote:

This set up was very efficient because the heat on the motor, ESC, and batteries at 95 degrees outside was as follows: motor after 5 runs 121, ESC 119 degrees, and batteries 74 degrees. My ESC gain 10, motor timing 0. I also have a 12S 3700 setup with 626 and 96 and it fly awesomely as well

How are the Temps on your 12s setup and flight times with the same flying style.

I use to fly 12s and now fly 8s. I use to pull no more than 80 amps. Now I pull up to 95 amps.
Temps increased by about 20 degrees. So now on a really hot day I have seen up to 175 degrees on the castle log. A lot of it depends on your flying style. Mine above was a flight full of tic tocs.

Yep, built a E5SS.
Kontronik 700-45 with 710mm blades, waiting for FAI Rail 716, on 12s 5000s. I get 7 minutes at 1800 doing 3D and 12 minutes at 1650 doing 3D. If I mix it up between 1650 and practicing autos I can easily spend 15 minutes flying My setup weighs 10.5lbs ready to fly.

I have my E5s on 10s with a 4035-560 scorpion motor and 626mm main blades. I get around 9 minutes at 1650rpm and 7:30 at 1950rpm doing soft 3d flying.

I've got the standard head dampers, no sign of bobble. I was a bit surprised myself and expected to have to fit the aftermarket ones but so far it's all good.
I started with the standard one shim but have now fitted the 2 thin shims as it was a little loose after bedding in. I forgot to add that I am running 4000mah packs. //Dennis.
