I'm pretty sure that g10 is the name of the new material they use for the frame

+1
- It's one of the 3 choices of material that the G5 comes in... Carbon Fiber, Silver Fiberglass, G10 Fiberglass.

That part is debatable.
IMO the strength of carbon fiber is less relevant on a tiny airframe like that of a G5 and the weight is about the same. The small dimensions and mechanical layout of the frame reduce flexing under flight loads, making fiberglass a perfectly suitable material. Personally I preferred the $30 cost savings of the fiberglass, and the silver color looks great.

I went with black G10 as it was in stock at the cheapest at the time. I now have a complete main frame in CF, and I cant say it feels any "stronger" - there just isnt much there to flex.

The only other difference is that they come with different canopies, and i prefer the one that comes with the CF model, so i bought a "scratch and dent" one with my order from HD for ~$13.

According to outrage, they are going to continue parts for the G5 and 550, however frame parts in the future are only going to be produced in carbon fiber as it is not worth it to supply 3 different frame materials and I dont really blame them for that. What does this mean to owners with silver or black G10 frames? It means is you crash and say break just one upper side frame that you will probably want to order 2 side frames in carbon so each side matches. Crash and break enough different frame parts and you will end up with a full carbon framed heli HA!

As long as I can keep flying it I don't really care what it looks like.
The canopy and blades are the only visual elements that really matter in flight, so if in the end I end up with a junkyard jewel with different colored frame parts, oh well.
It's such a great helicopter I plan to keep mine flying whatever it takes.
It would be a fitting tribute to the G5 to see it flying years in the future on a mish-mash of hoarded spares just for the love of it.

.

Not what the wife thinks....I kid, shes cool.

Most of that (70% or so) just came today from redlights for sale thread here. I am thinking of just building 2 more airframes to mostly completion so i can hang them on the wall. Plus it will help me get better at putting these things together.

I thought about you as i bought it

I dont have any spare electronics, just frames and stuff. When the parts supply/future was in question earlier this year, i went into "hoard" mode as i had JUST finished building mine and wasnt about to be driven out due to lack of parts.

G5 ??? Do you mean glass melamine ???

How did you find G5 ? As i know it is mostly used in electrical insulation part , G10 is mostly used in making RC Heli frame or canopy .

Outrage G5 comes with either silver twill weave fiber glass or black twill weave carbon fiber. G10 is plain flat black fiber glass
