Default tail gear backlash. Rave env 90.

Hi guys, Is there anyway of adjusting the back lash in both the front or rear tt gears? Mine are too tight and feel notchy when spun with my finger. It seems that the small silver bolts which stop the boom slipping dictate backlash but obviously they can't be adjusted. Any ideas would be great, thanks.

The best way I have noticed is to leave those pining screws(button/silver ones) out. Then I set proper gear mesh by moving either the tailcase(back) or the boom block(front) till the mesh is correct.
For the back I then clamp the tailcase down with the screw on the bottom before I insert the pining screws. This allows the pinning screws to possibly bite into the boom/inserts but it keeps your lash correct and still pins everything solid!
In the front I do the same thing by first installing the block in the frame and screwing it down before I place the pinning screws. This method has worked well with not only the plastic gears, but also the metal gears in the ballistic where mesh is a lot more critical/sensitive!

Good luck!

The only time I've seen the gear lash too tight was when either the tailboom inserts (w/bearings) were not fully pressed into the tailboom, or the plastic bevel gear was not inserted all the way into the bearings.

NOTE: the plastic inserts were a little tight and difficult to get all the way into in my tailbooms so I used an exacto blade and scraped the OD of the plastic inserts until they fit into the tailboom with just a little pressure.

Also, if you're using the metal TR bevel gears, make sure you don't have any end play in the driveshaft after you install the bevel gears on it.
