Default Mr Bergen, Please build a smaller gasser.

I was wondering if anybody else is interested in a Bergen gasser based around the Zenoah 20cc Electronic Ignition engine?
See: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=ZENE20EI
I think this would be a fantastic 60 size helicopter with all the benefits of running on gasoline and the quality that Bergen represents.
Hopefully the price could be closer to $1K with engine?

What do you think?

I'd probably order one--especially if Chris would make it ccpm--it would be nice to have a gasser in that size range

We looked at it when the 20cc Zenoah came out. Look at the power output of the engine compared to the weight.

In our estimation, it just isn't there. It would certainly fly, so does a .32 powered heli. But the performance that is demanded today just isn't there in this engine. It's great for airplanes, where it would replace a .60 size nitro, but not a plane that requires a .90......

Unfortunately it is about economics, which means TIME as well as money. We might sell a few, but not enough to make up for time it would take for us to develop it, test it, manufacture it,and get it produced. Especially for a mediocre performing helicopter, and for "under $1000" with engine!!

I suppose I could use 2mm frames that won't hold up, "buy" cheap plastic heads that will do the same, get the "soft" aluminum from China for the booms, sell it cheap, then offer high $$$ upgrades to fix those deficiencies...

Not a bad idea.......

Pas,
Even if it were practical, Mr. Bergen couldn't get to it because he is too busy sorting out recommended setups for the new electric Tazer so I can buy one of those

Thank you for considering the small Zenoah engine.

I guess I am a minority for the following reasons:

1. I am what I call a weed flyer in that I am not a member of a club and don't have access to a huge flying field.
2. I have no interest in doing 3D on a Bergen gasser. Smooth flying, mild aerobatics, scale possibilites and amateur aerial photography is more to my liking.

If you were able to make it have "Bergen quality" for around $1K you may be suprised and sell more than just a few!

And that right there is the Universal problem , Material costs money, the guys who make the parts want to get paid for their time (and I pay them more than what someone in China gets paid), I would also like to make a profit for my time spent.

Not complaining mind you, just the reality of the costs involved. It's a balancing act that we juggle everyday.

Sure. I'll let go the 4 people I have here now making parts, tell my local outside source work, "sorry".

Where does it end? Eventually no one in the states can AFFORD to fly R/C Helicopters cuz NOONE has a JOB!! Or has a very minimum wage paying job.....(Unless you're in the government....)

After seeing the Evolution 26GX in a gas plank, I'd have to wonder if it could be retrofit into an Intrepid?
Not terribly bigger than the 90 glow, and smaller from what I recall than the zenoahs.
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=EVOE26GX 1.6 ci.
no mention of weight.

If I could justify it with the missus, I'd have one sent to you for you to fit up and test as long as I got the engine or the bird in the end.
I see you still haven't offered me a deal on a turbine yet..

Exactly, one day we will have 1% very very rich and 99% working poor. Overall income in this country has steadily increased over the past 20 years years. But, virtually all of it is with the top 1-2% of wage earners with middle class income at a virtual standstill. Everything is driven by stock price with no concern or loyalty to anyone below the executive level, Thanks for not contributing to that problem. I like gettng my parts from Michigan.
