Hobbywing platinum pro 40A - Rave 450
Well, after not being that impressed with the vbar gov and my CC ice 50. I decided to purchase a hobbywing platinum pro 40A to give it a try. At $33 from hobbypatrz.com it seemed like a worthwhile experiment.
I have not received it yet, but did notice that the built in BEC was only 3a as opposed to the CC's 5a. Is this gonna be an issue in a 3s FBL 450? Is there anyone out there using this esc with the vbar gov with good results? Any good advice to avoid trouble?? Thanks guys!

I have this installed on my Beam with 3S, Hyperion phase sensor and Vbar gov.
Works flawlessly and I haven't had a BEC relate issue. Both the spool up and governor performance are markedly better than my Jazz (even to my relatively noobish thumbs), although it did feel a bit bizarre taking off a virtually brand new Kontronik and replacing it with a $28 ESC from HobbyKing.

Not sure on the -6, but if you search my topics, you'll find a thread with the settings I used on my -8.

Alright, I'm bringing this thread back to life to report what I've gotten so far and to ask for some new help..
I got the HW 40a esc installed and working...but on test flight my tail was kicking and wagging all over the place.. Today I finally got to play with the gov gain some..I was at 30..and started backing it down and ended up at 15..with the tail kick much better but still there. It only happens with abrupt collective inputs. I'm at work and dont have enough room to test FF much so I can't play with tail gain as I am unable to do any fast backward flight. 1. How low is too low on the governor gain for a 450? 2. Should I expect to have to adjust my tail gain with the new gov(gain was good when flying the CC gov) 2. Is there anything else I need to tweak to get this thing flying well? Thanks guys!! |

I'm having the same issues with mine, a relatively fast wag on hard collective or FFF.
I haven't had a chance to dial it in yet as I have a vibe issue I'm hunting down, but from doing some reading it doesn't look like it's a governor gain issue. I'd start by playing with my pre-comp and I gains first before attributing it to excessive governor gain. Once I figure out my vibe and we get a day where it's not blowing 20kts, I'll have a go at dialling it out and report back.
