Beast x tail precomp

Any body running precomp on their Beastx? I have a slight tail kick on full pitch pumps that I haven't been able to sort out. Now that a storm ended my flying I thought about adding precomp on the Beast x.

I'm using it, it's on the low setting if I remember right. I had a very slight kick on full pitch climbs, nothing major but annoying anyway. The precomp seems to have cured it.

Looks like I have a setting to play with if the weather holds this afternoon. Thanks Gt86. Mine is ever so slight as well but was more focused on breaking in the batteries and avoiding the thunder storm bearing down. When I made it to the garage I thought to myself that the precomp should take care of that pretty easily hence the post. I would guess most of our settings are pretty close to identical with just slight changes due to the desired feel.

Works wonderfully. On my gasser I am using the more aggressive setting. On my electric I use the minimal setting.

The direction of your tail deflection should be in whatever direction is necessary to counter the torque from the main blades.

If your Main blades spin clock wise (which most helis do) then your precomp should be set to deflect the blades to make the tail move to the left which points the nose to the right. In other words, it should precomp a right turn.

Start off with the lower setting and see if that keeps the tail solid on punch outs. Going to the higher setting will not hurt anything, so don't be afraid to test it out.

When you set it up on the bench, you can move your collective and see it pitch the tail blades. It's progressive. More pitch (positive or negative) = more precomp on the tail. 0 pitch = no precomp / neutral on the tail.

This was one of the best additions they came out with for locking in my tail. I love it.

Mine is reverse. Set it to whatever direction you needed in the settings step F to get the tail compensating the correct way. If your normal on F you want the precomp in the normal direction, if you're reversed in F you want reverse precomp.

The low setting worked well, and I tried the high too. Didn't notice a difference so I put it back on low. Has been fine, although I'm not a great pilot by any means so a more aggressive pilot may prefer the high setting. The precomp is a nice feature.

Alright! So, what is the direction you had it set?

My tail servo is on the right side facing the heli from the back. It turned out to be low pre comp normal direction for me.

My tail was kicking out badly when i throw the pitch hard up and setting the tail precomp to high has taken care of most of it but it makes me think there is another issue causing the problem... any thoughts?

A few things to look at:

Tail authority is driven by head speed. The EFL tail performs really well at 3000.

Set up your tail to hold in rate mode. Did wonders for my Beast X and my GY520 on other helis.

Make sure everything is smooth. Tail grip bearings that are going bad can induce a lot of drag to the system.

Confirm you have the upgraded tail hub with the shims.

Run a flat throttle curve. A "v" curve causes a lot of kick issues. Learned the hard way coming up since the Align manuals always seem to post a "v" curve.

Post back on the above and we should get you heading in the right direction.

Pick up the new tail hub with shims from HD would be what I would recommend.
