Rebirthing the servo topic
I thought about going with the Ds92a+ or ds95 for my cyclic but just can't do the extra cost right now. Maybe in November. Here are my questions:
How are the Hitec servos working for people? How are the Savox servos working for people? If I run one of those on the cyclic and a ds8910 or ds95 from MKs will I need to add an external bec for the CC50? (4s setup) Would the futaba bls257 require a bec? Anyone running the Savox tail servo? My E5 is the high powered Heli for me and this is more for practicing new moves and upgrading up from the blade helis I had for practicing things. I know the mini-p is top notch, but I don't need the high dollar servos at the moment. Running a mini Vbar with spektrum sats. Oh yeah, for this size heli one sat is enough correct? Thanks!

YGE with Savöx (262 cyclic, 1357 tail) all around here. Can´t complain about performance and reliability, but I have nothing to compare them to. Only gripe is that the cyclics devolp play rather quickly in their metal gears.
One sat is sufficient for a 450 size heli.

Thanks for the info. Great, just have to do one SAT. This will all be run with a CC50, have a bec but waiting until I add mks servos later this year. I worry about the Savox though because of the slop. Is it that bad? Anyone know how the Hitec servos are or even spektrum?

Hard to say if the slop is really bothersome, as this setup is my only reference point. Most noticeable is it in the wind at pitch close to 0 (no load situations) where the heli can be thrown up/downwards a little. I also would like to up the head gain more in the Microbeast, but I´m not sure if it´s the servos or the just servo horns (hole distance) or maybe blades. Will try those things first before I blame them. But in fact it flies so well ATM that I´m putting off those things for months now. More flying, less wrenching
Very happy with the tail though, no slop (plastic gears), fast, solid performance and quiet. But in comparison to ds95i of course heavier, it´s a mini size servo. Balances well with 3S 2650 packs on the stretch.

I'm flying SAVOX on my Protos and Hyperion on my Atom.
Both are great value for the money, so far did not notice any slop |

Out of the Savox, MKS and Hyperion, any figment issues? I still have not found where the Hyperion servos are.
If I ran one of those brands on the cyclic(or hitec), would I need a bec just to drive an MKS 95i on the tail? I know if I run mks on cyclic it is recommended, but didn't know if it was needed when just running on the tail.

I have pretty much made a decision. But didn't get an answer on this question.
If I run a servo like the spektrum on cyclic, is it ok to run the mks95i without a bec for the CC50 and mini Vbar with 1 sat?

Guess it will be a problem even with running just the 95i. I will have to find another tail servo then. Funny that trex 250s can run the 95i tail servo and people are using the super small CCesc's on those helis. I can do the 95i but can't afford the cyclic mks servos right now. Maybe down the line. So I'm looking at either the hitecs or spektrum.
For Hitec is it the 65mg or 5065? And if it is not possible to run the 95i without a bec on a CC50, which tail servo is second best?

Can´t help with your BEC questions. How would you even configure cyclics running on the esc BEC and tail on the external BEC?
Hitec 65MG is an analog servo. Not that it would´t work, but given the choice I would buy digital. Spektrum Servos are in fact relabeled Savöx/Align AFAIK. Given my not so great experience with slop on the cyclic I would go Hitec. I think best bang for buck on the tail is from mini servos. A little heavier, but lots of torque for rock solid tail. Popular choices: A... DS520, Savöx 1357, Futaba 9257 ...

I saw in a review of the mini p that they used that particular futaba servo so I thought about it as well. I am not sure how I would configure things on an external bec which is why I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible and would prefer to not do the external. It was easy on the E5 because I just did the build exactly like Matt Botos, with the exception of the gyro.
Thanks for the info about the Hitec servos and the other help.

Gee am I looking at the right Hitec servo? On helidirect the servo is $40, but went to tower, horizon, and a few others and the price is in the low 20s. Could someone list the exact model number? I put in Hitec 5056mg in my google search, maybe that is wrong. But if I can do these for $22 a piece and the futaba for 60 I will save between 100 and 160 dollars compared to the mks all together. I think mks is great but this is not going to be my top Heli. This might offend some, but it will be my Heli that I try new things with and not sorry as much about crashing, though I have no plans to ever crash it.

Buy the mks ds92A+ and be done with this already LOL. Or is it jr 285 servos now for cyclic which in my opinion do not have enough torqe for fbl use, even though others have used them with good results. You are hopping all over the place

I was looking at the same jr servos that nick maxwell used so I'm sure they are fast enough. I can't just be done with it because I want the best deal. As mentioned before I can't afford to just buy 250-300 worth of servos without researching to see if there is another option. Still searching the used servo area, the jr servos are already sold so still looking.

Ordered the Hitec 5065mg and futaba s9257. I think I will be happy with that. If I ever crash badly I'll go to mks with a gryphon, but while setting up the Heli and getting used to it, rather not have the expensive stuff on there yet.

Just to let you know that contrary to what futaba says, the 9257 can be run on 6 volts as regulated thru a bec. Internal or external. The specs unless they have been updated are from when everyone used NiCad flight packs and 6volt 5 cell NiCad packs at full charge were easily over 7 volts. I ran a 9257 for about a year on 6 volts regulated with no issues. It is just a dated technology servo and its performance is kinda mediocre compared to recent high end tail servos. It is not the smallest of things either LOL! If you go cc lite 50 esc set the software for 6 volts in the esc. You will need a castle link to program the esc I hope you know?

Kind of off topic now, but what blades were you thinking of running?

Man, Scott has a lot of knowledge! I have the Castle software from running the 120hv. Again, this will probably be until black friday when the prices come down. Should be good for a few months though.
I'm pretty sure I will get the Rail blades and a set of the 350's at some point since it is a 4s stretch. Glad you mentioned that, need to order that and more batts now.

MKS servos rock, but you sure don't have to spend that much money to end up with a great flying Mini Protos.
