CineStar 6 build
I've recently been enlisted to build a Cinestar 6. This is made by Quadrocopter and runs MK electronics. I'll post up photos and tidbits as I get through the process.
Unboxing this unit was a treat. Seems to be by first glance a very well packaged and engineered piece of equipment. I'm looking forward to the end result. Here are a couple photos from today. I didn't have a ton of time on my hands but I wanted to get a start on the project. I assembled the main frame first. All the carbon was VERY sharp. The bulk of my time today was spent filing the edges of these frames. Once completed the two frame halves get put together with the boom clamps in between. I also mounted the motors to the booms. The quality in these components looks stellar as well. I'm quite impressed thus far with the quality inside this box of goods.

Cool. The Cinstar 6 is a nice airframe. Will be watching your thread.

I did a bit more work on the Cinestar today. I assembled the vibration dampeners, mounted them to the frame and attached the camera mount.
Once that was done I attached the booms to the frame and assembled the landing points. I'm still very impressed with the quality of this airframe. There isn't a whole lot left as far as the airframe goes but I've got a lot of soldering ahead of me. I'm going to be putting in connectors on anything that runs through the booms so that everything can be disconnected.

I started on some of the soldering on the power distribution board. Thought I might post up a photo of it. I broke out the dslr for better photos.

Good progress!
Thanks for taking the time to post pictures and the video of your progress. This makes the build a lot less intimidating for people considering purchasing this kit!

Any possibility you could post a synopsis of the steps you took to get from, "soldering on the power distribution board" to the video of you running the cinestar for the first time in your living room?
I suspect there are a few things you need to connect? How does the spektrum receiver connect to the cinestar? And it looks like you opted to use a basic USB cord instead of the wireless xBee system to setup/flash firmware? Thanks again. Sorry for all the questions! -Josh |

There are two boards on this bird, the power distribution board and the flight control. On the power distribution board I had to solder 18 motor leads and the primary lipo power. On the flight control board I had to solder on the spektrum sat receiver. You need to bind everything before you chop off the connector. I have a couple things left. The 3 led strips get soldered onto the power distribution board. I'm waiting for jst connectors from hh though so the booms can be removed easily. I also have to solder on the telemetry lead to the same board to read the voltage. Lastly the buzzer also gets soldered onto there as well. Once power, motors and sat receiver were all good I was able to power it up. I'm building the unit for someone else and the usb is what was supplied. I had to solder the ribbon cable connector to the small usb board. Before connecting I downloaded mk tools and plugged it in. Updating the firmware and configuration is a breeze and the guys at quadrocopter walked me through a few small adjustments needed. They are extremely helpful! That's where I'm at now. Once the led lights are wired I can mount the sat receiver and telemetry unit, and install the lipo tray before doing final checks and test hovering. This is a really fun project, I'm excited, and a little scared, for when it comes time to fly it. I'll be handing it off to the owners once it's tested. If I can answer any other questions at all let me know. Sent from my Evo 4G using Tapatalk.

How do you determine which of the three wires from the motors connects to their respective connectors on the power distribution board? I know the motors have to spin a specific direction so this is important.
I've seen some great videos on how to connect the ribbon connector and update firmware using MK-tools. [ame]http://vimeo.com/29890951[/ame] Once the firmware has been updated I am a bit fuzzy on the procedure for the "configuration progress" within MK-tools. What particular website page did you use to reference parameters for the cinestar 6 (manually or with a file)? If you had a chance to chime back with a few details on this that would be great. |
