Default Stop using that oil

Its dirty and not a good oil. Maybe briefly to break in the engine, but I am against that now as even briefly you build up carbon with it. I could see a difference (not as clean) when I ran it in the past.

Switch to Penzoil, just run that through it and it should get better over time. I wouldn't open it up and start cleaning, you might damage something doing that.

What I see in the video looks very much normal to me. Switch to the Pennzoil as soon as is possible, it'll be fine.

Default Engine running

Update: My friend stopped by and helped me hold the heli down while I pulled the starter. It was hard at first and it got easier and easier. After about 20 pulls it started. Shut it off, and it easily started on the first pull. It seems it's just the what has to be done until the engine breaks in.

I will change to Pennzoil right away. Some mentioned just Pennzoil and rbort you mentioned Marine full synthetic. Here is a photo of 3 of them, does it really matter which one? There is XLF, Premium Plus, and Fully Synthetic.

I should be ready to hover it Friday, couple of questions:

1. What RPM should I hover at?
2. Can I just break the engine in with the blades at "0" pitch and just let it sit?
3. Can I break engine in just idling with no blades?

Thanks again.

Idling the engine forever wont break it in. You need to heat cycle it and put some load on the engine.

There are varying methods but the key in all of them is to vary the RPM and load but give it a workout without sustained full load operation for a couple of gallons. You can do this in the air by flying in short hops with occasional pauses to land and idle. Run either governor off or switching between normal mode and idle up. Start with a lower RPM and very short hops and work up to higher rpm and longer flight periods/ less cool downs over the first couple gallons.

If you want you can keep the tune just slightly rich of peak until its well broken in. Unlike a glow engine there is no benefit to running it slobbering rich during the break in.

Default Oil

The only one you want is the fully synthetic, the one on the right.

Breakin just fly around low and slow for a couple of minutes, land, sit for a minute and repeat. If you are good in autos you can slowly gain altitude during flight and auto down to give the engine a break.

No reason to sit on the ground idling, or running it up to 0 pitch, fly it!

As far as speeds, use 1620, 1720, and 1820 on the Spectra-g. Use the 1620 for the first couple of tanks, then you can alternate between 1620 and 1720 for the next couple of tanks. Refrain from full power climbouts of high load until you get through a gallon, then do what you want.

Default First Flight

Ok. I have done everything that has been suggested and I had an amazing flight, it was windy so heli is all over the place. Couple more questions.

1. Trimming is done with the radio right?

2. Where do I get spacers for the tail blades? I want to put some carbon fiber or orange KDBB.

3. Heli began loosing power and I had to set it down. When I returned home I noticed the muffler a tad loose, could this have caused it?

4. On first tank there was a lot of smoke on 2nd tank less smoke and I noticed more power. Should I make it richer?

Thanks for all your help. Here is a video.

1. Flybar, yes use the radio trims to level it out. You can recenter later with sub trims or mechanical as needed.

2. They usually come with the tail blades, at least I remember the SAB ones did.

3. I didn't notice any loss of power. Muffler getting loose can change the mixture, yes.

4. You may need to richen it slightly, what are you needle settings and what carb?

5. The head speed seems a little bit slow. maybe you want to pick it up 50 to 100 rpms. What is it at or do you know?
