It is not an issue with the PC. It is related to the software but only happens with computers that have a specific USB controller. Unfortunately none of our computers has this problem otherwise it would have been rectified already.

We've sold several hundreds VX1e's and a small % of users happen to see the problem. As a temporary workaround you can use a USB hub instead of plugging the VX1e directly to the computer. I am working on a permanent solution and should be available soon.

Cheers,
Angelos

Default USB Solution

Hi Angelos / Spartan support.

Reference problem with Vortex Esprit USB interface:

Before any one blames my Netbook, please note that MSH Brain, V-bar, Beast X and Skookum USB Interfaces all work perfectly on it!

Can you be more specific about what sort of additional USB hub I need to purchase (at my own cost!) to enable the Spartan Vortex Esprit to be adjusted at flying field via my netbook (as intended / marketed) ?

link to an example of a suitable USB hub would be great?

Thanks,

Russ.

Russ,
nobody blames your computer. As I explained this issue only manifests in a small number of computers which resulted to it not being seen during our testing. If I had a time machine I'd go back and fix it but as it stands I need few days to work things out. I have observed that using a USB hub solves the problem and few users confirmed it did for them too. Any USB hub... you know the thing that splits one USB port to many like this one: http://ebay.eu/1tpnIDR

Not being familiar, I'm the one who put the blame on the PC end.

Just finished my setup. Used the studio to do the whole thing and no problems other than that one on the first try. Only thing keeping me from flying is I can't find the y harness that I thought I had for the second power lead. That's the one thing I don't like is missing a free port for the second power wire. But if that's all I have to dislike then life is good.

How about the DPOD or RX ports? Are they both taken already?

I have one in the rx port but I was thinking that I couldn't plug power into the data port. I will still need to use the data port for the trim flight.

Here's a quick solution:

Plug the DataPod in as usual, then connect the second power lead to the empty port on the DataPod. Power will be looped through the DataPod and into the Vortex.

Ordererd the advised USB hub and tried again... and it still does not work.

Keep getting all sorts of windows error codes and saying un-recognised device.

All other Interfcaces work fine...!!!

The USB not recognised message is common when the connection is physically broken (damaged USB cable for example). The message is not associated with the known USB issue some experience with the Vortex.

Please plug something else to the USB hub; anything you have like a keyboard, mouse, smartphone etc and confirm that the ports of the hub are working correctly. If you have a smartphone or table with the same micro-USB connector it would be best as then you can test the hub and cable at the same time.

Angelo, I also had the same problem as Russ. I bought a 3.0 usb at walmart. My mouse , keyboard, and hard drive works but not the vx1e when plugged into the hub.

Did you get that exact error message Russ mentioned?

Just to give you an update... I was able to replicate the USB issue on a MacBook running Windows. Subsequently, I was today able to track down the problem to a fairly small piece of code. Removing it solved all USB problems, however it is needed can't can't just be removed. It needs some more head scratching but we are getting there.

Excellent news... best of luck with the head scratching!

Think the MSH Brain had similar probs with the interface dropping out when it was first released. Their solution involved running the USB connection at a slower speed to ensure a reliable connection.

Some good news. I have the software running for few hours now and didn't have any USB drop outs. With the opportunity I want to refine another aspect of the USB operation, then we'll do some final testing and release the update.

Great news, thanks for the update Angelos. If you want another UK tester just drop me a line, I was getting plenty of resets here :-)
